Gerardo Perone - the 2013 Rotary Sports Person of the Year.

At The Rotary Club of Port Lincoln’s 30th presentation dinner on Tuesday 23rd Joan Lindpere was the guest speaker who gave the club a talk on the rich history and evolution of the Port Lincoln Times being the sponsor of the award. Joan presented Gerardo with the award for his long and meritorious list of achievements in the sport of lawn bowls.

Gerardo has been well known as a sportsman from the time the Perone family arrived from Italy in the early 60’s. He was still playing soccer well into his 50’s and has now achieved this award at 70 years of age.

Gerardo has been a Champion of Champions in the sport of Lawn bowls for many years and has been the Eyre Mens bowls Association’s Champion of Champions three times this season.

His singles achievement at the Country Carnival held in Adelaide gave him an incredible three wins and three runners up’s

Singles Champion for the Port Lincoln bowling club for 1991, 1992, 2002, 2010, 2011 & 2012.

Pairs champion for 1994, 2001, 2010 & 2012 with runner up in 1991

S.A. Country pairs champion 2009,

S.A. Country singles champion 2008 & 2010 & R/U 1999 and 2004

Gerardo has been the EP representative for the “round Robin & Prestigue Events” for the past 10 years.

President of the Rotary Club of Port Lincoln presented a plaque to Gerardo for this fine record of achievement.
