I hope everyone had a wonderful break over the Christmas/New Year holidays. I forgot to mention in the last newsletter that member Pat Welke was able to join us for the celebrations after months of medical issues; and that she also taught croquet on the night of our Christmas event – thanks, Pat.
Some members and friends of the Club will still be away on holidays, but we will have our first 2026 meeting for breakfast this Thursday 8 January starting at 7am, followed by a quick Board meeting.
We had a very successful BBQ (held on a Saturday instead of our usual Monday) on 3 January. I would have taken a photo – seeing Elaine was volunteering to help on her birthday – but the middle shift was so busy we didn’t have time to even finish cooking the snags before people were lining up to buy them! Thanks to all the day’s volunteers Rob, Dean, Liz T, Alison, Yvette, Yuli, John, Di, Elaine, Angus, Ian and son Max, and Madhav.
On Friday, 1 February 2026, the Afghanistan Culture Day Celebration is taking place to promote love, peace and harmony in the community (following decades of conflict in Afghanistan between different ethnic groups). Our Community Services group put a proposal to the Board in December for our Club to help sponsor this event, and our Board agreed to provide $500 towards the event. All Club members and the public are invited to attend. Provided will be an authentic Afghan dinner (yum), live music, an exhibition of historical photos and information on Afghan cameleers in Australia, arts and paintings, and other fun activities. Join in the festivities to encourage community unity and collaboration.
Just a heads up for Thursday 22 January which will be our Club’s AGM and election of President/officers for the 2026-27 year. Mark it in your diary to attend.
Be Part of the Change! 🌟 Uniting Clubs for a Safer Future. On Tuesday, 24 February 2025 at the Skyline Restaurant at Rydges Adelaide, 1 South Terrace, the Rotary Metropolitan Adelaide Clubs Community Group Dinner is being held. I sought expressions of interest in attending in December. The booking website isn’t live as yet (I’ll let you know when it is), but here is some further information about the event for you to read. A major guest speaker is being arranged. Join fellow Rotarians and Rotaractors from your Rotary Community Group and beyond as we come together to strengthen our clubs' initiatives and practical actions already underway to end domestic and family violence.
