Our guest speaker last Thursday evening was Dr Valeria Anaya from EmergencyRedi which undertakes workshops to support communities to complete a REDI-plans to cope with disaster situations, ie earthquakes, storm events, fires and other emergencies.
Valeria handed out packs of information to get everyone ready for an emergency evacuation from their home or from a developing situation wherever they are located. We learnt about the practical, psychological and social steps to prepare for an emergency, how impacts can be minimised and how to deal with other crises in our lives. A very interesting talk.
On Saturday 1 March, our Cuppa Conversation at the Botanic Gardens was a different format to our usual meeting at a café over coffee and breakfast. It was a beautiful day sitting on the grass (or seats) and sharing lively conversation, cakes, biscuits and coffee while looking at the beautiful lake and the Chihuly glass sculptures nearby. With the Adelaide Fringe and Adelaide Festival of Arts events taking place this month, attendance was lower than usual but with the myriad choices of entertainment on this month a smaller attendance was expected.
This morning, I briefly met up with our former Club member Miriam Silva (President 2006) at the International Women’s Day breakfast at the Arkaba – Miriam was the guest speaker. I only had a few minutes to chat with Miriam, but it was lovely to catch up with her. She and her husband Steven are coping well, and still living in Melbourne.
I hope to see you this coming Thursday at the White Picket Café, Dulwich for Coffee Catch-up at 9.30am.
Best wishes and have a great week. Yvette, President.

It was the day of the big sale. Rumours of the sale (and some advertising in the local paper) were the main reason for the long line that formed by 8:30, the store’s opening time, in front of the store.
A small man pushed his way to the front of the line, only to be pushed back, amid loud and colourful curses.
On the man’s second attempt, he was hit, and then thrown to the end of the line again.
As he got up the second time, he said to the person at the end of the line… “That does it! If they hit me one more time, I won’t open the store!
