A group of club members will be attending an End Polio Fundraiser at the Pagoda Restaurant on Glen Osmond Road on Wednesday 11th October for a Banquet Meal and to hear Emeritus Professor Alan McKinnon speak. If any other rotarians / partners or friends would still like to come along, please let me know. The food apparently is pretty spectacular.
 
Our next meeting will be a Club Planning meeting – these planning meetings are an integral part of our yearly calendar and enable members to have robust round table discussion about meeting format, current and future club projects  and activities, relationships with other bodies and to explore what it is our members want.  Since our last club planning meeting there has been a joint district membership forum and this will be an opportunity to hear some new ideas and explore what other clubs are doing, plus looking at a  suggestion of how Group 1 clubs can work together on a overseas refugee crisis.    Please come along and be prepared to be vocal!
 
It was humbling this week to receive an email of thanks, via Angus, from Gabriel Martinez from the Rotary Club of Bogota Suba in Colombia, for our club’s effort in continuing to help the students of Miramar. They had received advice that we have made a further donation of $2,000 for the next two trimesters and are indeed very grateful.

1.     Rotary District Conference

The combined Rotary Conference to be held in the Barossa Arts and Convention Centre in 2018 will feature a Rotary Showcase where Clubs, District and Rotary affiliated programs can display and issue materials to publicise their activities.

Clubs and Organisations are invited to apply for the allocation of Display Spaces at the Conference. The Convenor of the Rotary Showcase is PP Les Dennis (RC Regency Park) lesdennis@bigpond.com  0408813966.  Because this is a combined Conference highlighting Coming Together,  it is likely that there will be a heavy
demand for available spaces. Convenors and key personnel are urged to contact Les to reserve a spot in the display area asap. The Conference commences at 1pm on Friday 23rd March with Registration open from 9.30am. The conference concludes at 1pm on Sunday 25th March.

2.     RAH Equipment for Kenya - by RC Walkerville

ROYAL ADELAIDE HOSPITAL has partnered with Rotary to send hospital beds, medical equipment and ward furniture from the old RAH, overseas to help Third World communities. This is the largest donation of its kind, and they want to ensure that surplus equipment is donated to those who need it most.

DONATIONS IN KIND has taken on the task of working with con-tacts overseas to determine needs

The project requires the following assistance;

1/ Man power to assist loading the container.

2/ Financial assistance to meet the budget and the Rotary Foundation requirements

3.   Jenny Paradiso -Telstra Business Woman of the Year 

Jenny will be the speaker at the Rotary Club of Addelaide meeting Wednesday 1 November 12.30 for a 1.00pm start.  To register your attendance, please go to the Rotary Club of Adelaide website.     The cost of only $35 includes a meal, shared cheese platter, coffee and tea. $5 from each booking will go to Rotary Club of Adelaide charities.

Chairman: Meet/greet speaker for the meeting; introduce and thank speaker. Preparation:- find details about  the speaker prior to the meeting.
Attendance: Set up reception table (attendance sheet; members list – re -payments; guest welcome sheet; money; wine raffle sheet); register member payments/ apologies/ guests.
Hosting: Set up name badges display; welcome all at the door; ensure speaker and guests are introduced to appropriate persons.
Furniture: Flags; banner display; raffle balls; collection boxes; Rotary theme banner; gong and hammer; lectern position before and returned after the meeting. Computer set up – Connect to projector. Switch on. Hold function key & press F5 twice.
Invocation: Recite Rotary or other invocation relating to Rotary and fellowship.
Bottles/cans: Collect bags of bottles/cans at meeting and take to recycle centre for refund, pass refund and empty bags to David Rowe at next meeting.
Members’ Corner: write for the Newsletter on a topic of your choice, particularly during the 3 weeks you appear here on the roster, but also anytime you have something to say.
Rotaract, Bread roster: Roster is for the Sunday/Monday after the meeting date.
Rotaract: Meets alternate Mondays at 6pm (for a 630pm start) at the General Havelock Hotel in Hutt Street.
Bread: Sundays, meet outside Romeo's, North Adelaide at 4:55pm

Members rostered for Thursday morning duty are asked to be in attendance by 6.45am
