At this Thursday’s meeting, it will be a very full meeting! (Please note this meeting will take place in the Level 1 dining room – order your meal before you come up via lift or stairs.)
Firstly, it will be the last meeting with our members Carol and Brian before they leave for their new home in Sydney – although they have promised to come back to Adelaide regularly and visit our Club!
We will also have Elizabeth Rualhleng – our recent RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Awards) attendee speaking about the highlights of attending this 7-day residential leadership event for 18-25 year olds. Alison may also find a few minutes to talk about her life and times (if not, we’ll re-schedule another time).
Finally, we will have our final discussion about Rotary Regionalisation. District Governor-Elect Marie-louise (M-l) Lees, who is up-to-date with the Zone 8 Regionalisation Pilot, will be attending to answer any queries we may have on the issue. We, as a Club, will then need to vote in a leadership team (see separate email sent to all members sent yesterday), and we’ll also decide who our Club would like to be associated with, ie other clubs in our District for primary contacts, and secondary contacts could be project-based (Timor Leste Rotary Clubs for our international projects?).
Last Saturday’s Cuppa Conversation for migrant networking and social support at Cozinha Café & Restaurant was very successful. This authentic Brazilian food café was only opened in August 2023, and we were warmly welcomed by the owners. I counted 30 Rotarians and migrants at the event, thanks to Lili’s organisation and follow-up through the Cuppa Conversation What-App site, and her own social media contacts. Rob also let all the attendees know about our Domestic Violence Walk on 25 November and invited them to attend and walk behind our Rotary Club’s banner. If you haven’t yet ordered a T-shirt or polo shirt with the DV logos on them, there is still time if you ring Rob before the order is put in on Wednesday this week. If you don’t wish to procure a logo-ed shirt, you can just wear your normal Rotary branded shirts on the day of the walk.

See you on Thursday night at the Kent Town Hotel at 6.00pm for a fun-packed night. Please note that the small room we usually use downstairs in unavailable that night, so we will be meeting in the Level 1 dining room (use stairs or the lift to access). Please remember to order your meal in the downstairs bar prior to coming up.

Grenache is a McLaren Vale specialty, medium bodied and more complex than pinot noir - essentially an easy drinking summer substitute for shiraz, without its earthiness. This one from Hither & Yon is bright, juicy and lively with food - ideal in the warmer months ahead. You may detect wild strawberry, raspberry, blackberry, black cherry, stewed plums, some spicy cinnamon and black pepper. With time to breathe it comes across confidently on the first night and endures for the second.

"From the Leask brothers’ youngest Grenache vines at 13 years old, crafted into a youthful, fragrant, bistro style with 20% whole bunch influence in the winemaking that offers a subtle sappiness in the palate. While you are being seduced by its floral aromas and freshly squeezed plum and apple juiciness, you should pause for a mo, as it has plenty to offer in its textural game, lip-smacking and with an appealing spicy/peppery tannin profile in the palate and finish. Bistro, yes, and very food conscious as well – its own crew suggests pairing it with the vegetable and cheese pasty from the Willunga Bakery."

Due to a job transfer, Brian moved from his hometown to the city. Because he had a very comprehensive health history, he brought along all of his medical paperwork.
When it came time for his first check up he took the papers to his new doctor.
After browsing through the extensive medical history, the doctor stared at Brian for a few moments and said, ”Well there’s one thing I can say for certain, you sure look better in person than you do on paper!”
