A busy week with guest speakers Rotaractor Sammy Balvally speaking about her RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Award) attendance which she thoroughly enjoyed; and Sadra Zarei (son of member Fatemeh and her husband Reza) relating his week on the One and All Sail Training experience recently. Our venue for the evening was Taste of Nepal on Norwood Parade - a lovely casual setting with excellent menu.
Two days later was our Christmas Croquet Challenge where our Club was joined by many Rotaractors from Adelaide City Club and was a wonderful time for us enjoy the company of our member’s families and reflect on the year past, the holidays to come and the joy of a new year. This year we were pleased to have Erfan & Manizha and Wahab & Wahida and their young children as well as former Rotaractors Catherine and John and their two children to celebrate Christmas. It was a joy to hear the laughter of small children running around again – as many of our longer-term member’s kids have all grown up! Small family gifts were provided for the kids, while their parents and other guests learnt the wonderful game of Croquet.
When the delivery from Marcellina’s arrived, we all tucked in to the delicious pizzas, and helped ourselves to the salad selection and, later, pavlova and fruit mince pies. The night was perfectly balmy with no insects for our outdoor event. So, who won after vying for the honour of taking home the Croquet Challenge Silver Teapot Trophy? This year, Rotary prevailed so we’ll look after the Trophy and the Rotaractors can try to win it back next year. Photo of President Steph begrudgingly handing it over to President Yvette. Thanks to all who helped on the night including Paul E, John and Rob for croquet lessons, Lili who looked after the bar and finances, and Yvette for organising the tucker (food), as well as others who helped pack up, wash up and put away the tables, chairs etc. An all round wonderful evening.
Our Club officially stops meeting for a few weeks around Christmas/New Year. We will be holding a breakfast meeting on 12 December and a Coffee Catch-up on 19 December, but then we will recess until Thursday 9 January for breakfast. Coffee Conversation isn’t being held in December, so our next meeting will be in late January.
