At our monthly Board meeting last week, we discussed and decided on many things.
- Our recent speaker, Dr Paul Duke, who is a Rotarian as well as a volunteer surgeon for ROMAC (Rotary Oceania Medical Aid for Children) certainly made an impression so once again we have voted on providing a $1000 donation to continue the wonderful work of this wholly volunteer program.
- Our Club will produce a plaque to commemorate our previous Timor Leste project which will be officially opened by the local Minister of Youth, Sport and Art in Culture in May (when John W, Kirsti and Rob will be inspecting the water projects we hope to get a Global Grant for). We will also help with funding the event with a $US100 donation.
- Paul Jupp has kindly agreed to host a breakfast think-tank on Thursday 9 May to brainstorm ideas for our Club’s future fundraising ideas (as a backup in case our BBQs don’t generate enough funds).
- A trip for the Cuppa Conversation migrants has been arranged for Saturday 25 May. We have booked a 25-seater and 12-seater bus which will allow about 30 guests and Rotarians on board. Any overflow may be covered if Rotarians wish to drive their car down with extra passengers on board when we do our tour of Victor Harbor, Pt Elliot and Goolwa. An itinerary will be out soon.
- Our Club’s changeover of Directors will be held in the Barton Room in the Caledonian Hotel, O’Connell Street, North Adelaide on Friday 21 June, 6.30pm for a 7.00pm start. Please keep this date free for this annual event.
Don’t forget to book to hear a great speaker at the District Area 12 Dinner (Adelaide-based Rotary Clubs) being held on 14 May at the Glenelg Golf Club, James Melrose Road, Novar Gardens from 6.30pm to 9.30pm. The 2-course meal is $60pp and the guest speaker will be Detective Superintendent Des Bray, Head of Major Crime, speaking on “Current techniques used in homicide investigations”. Last week’s guest speaker Tanya Kaplan OAM gave a riveting talk about the relationship between Australia and Turkey and Tanya’s own life achievements following her move to Australia with her new husband at just 17 years of age. We also heard about Mustafa Kemal Ataturk (Former President of Turkiye, revolutionary statesman and founding father of the Republic of Turkey) and the sweeping reforms which modernised Turkey into a secular, industrialised nation in 1923 including Turkish women receiving equal civil and political rights in local elections.
There is no meeting this week as Thursday falls on Anzac Day. You may wish to attend one of the many Anzac Dawn Services instead. Our next meeting will be on Thursday 2 May at the White Picket Café from 9.30am. See you there.

Chairman: Meet/greet speaker for the meeting; introduce and thank speaker. Preparation:- find details about the speaker prior to the meeting. Attendance: Set up reception table (attendance sheet; members list – re -payments; guest welcome sheet; money); register member payments/ apologies/ guests. Hosting: Welcome all at the door; ensure speaker and guests are introduced to appropriatepersons. Furniture: Flags; banner display; Rotary theme banner; gong and hammer; lectern position before and returned after the meeting. Computerset up – Connect to projector. Switch on.
