This last week in Timor Leste, the members from the Rotary Club of Dili Lafaek and the Rotaract Club of Covalima have been busy buying the necessary kilometres of pipe, fittings and tanks to start the Village Water Supply Project for Haemanu, Sulamali and Lo’oqueu Foho in Covalima.
 
This major International Club project is being managed by John Wotherspoon and Paul Jupp who applied for Global and District Grants to pay for the $AUD98,000 ($US60,000) project. Our thanks also to the Rotary Clubs of Mitcham (SA) and Hervey Bay Sunrise (Qld) for their financial support. Our Club is currently producing two plaques that John and Paul will take over to Timor Leste when they visit the project in early October so that they can be used in the official Opening Ceremonies (when the project is completed in late October or November).
 
The images below show some of the truckloads of equipment necessary to start the project.
 
 
 
 
This coming Thursday is dinner at the Kent Town with guest speaker (former member) Andries Van Der Merwe who is training for a Marathon (with funds helping premature babies). We look forward to hearing more.

The Four Way Test

The minister was preoccupied with thoughts of how he was going to ask the congregation to come up with more money than they were expecting for repairs to the church building. Therefore, he was annoyed to find that the regular organist was sick and a substitute had been brought in at the last minute.
 
The substitute wanted to know what to play. "Here's a copy of the service," he said impatiently. "But, you'll have to think of something to play after I make the announcement about the finances."
 
During the service, the minister paused and said, "Brothers and Sisters, we are in great difficulty; the roof repairs cost twice as much as we expected and we need $4,000 more Any of you who can pledge $100 or more, please stand up."
 
At that moment, the substitute organist played 'The Star Spangled Banner' And that is how the substitute became the regular organist!
