For this Thursday’s meeting at 7.00am at the South Terrace Croquet Club, we look forward to welcoming District Governor Craig Dowling – as well as Assistant Governor Angela Ellis - for his official visit to our Club. After an introductory spiel, DG Craig is happy to take all and any questions you may have. We look forward to seeing you all there.
At last Thursday’s coffee conversation, we heard the news that Brian and Carol have now purchased a lovely apartment in Sydney’s North Shore, and will be moving back to be near their family sometime in September. We have loved having them as members of our Club, and they have promised to return to Adelaide regularly and visit us. Brian said they have found another great Rotary Club close to where they’ll be living, so Rotary won’t be losing valuable members! We all wish them well with their move, but will still have their company for another month or two.
There is still room for up to four attendees at our authentic Mexican cuisine demonstration this coming Saturday 12 August at 1.00pm. Book through Carol (click here to email your acceptance). Cost is $20pp to cover ingredients. On the three-course menu are: Tangy, zesty Mole chicken enchiladas and green salsa and beef enchiladas; cornbread cake; and fresh horchata (a refreshing traditional Mexican beverage made from rice flour, cinnamon and vanilla flavours in a creamy drink. Any funds raised will be used to assist Erfan’s brother and family when they arrive in Adelaide.
Get your friends and family together for our Rotary/Rotaract Quiz Night for Timor Leste. Secure your tickets through Humanitix (click HERE) for the event to be held on Friday 29 September, 6pm-10pm at Wyatt Hall, Pulteney Grammar School, 190 South Terrace, Adelaide. It promises to be a great night with fun, laughter, a wine wall, a raffle, and great prizes that are being accumulated by enthusiastic Community Service members Margie and Paige! Tickets are $20 each. As the Quiz Night is scheduled for the night before the Footy Grand Final, dress up with a sport’s team theme and win a special prize for the best-dressed group. All funds will go towards school or water projects in remote villages in Timor Leste.
How Much: $20 each or $200 for a table of 10 (not including any applicable fees)

Tell me more: The quiz night will feature the usual favourites; a wine wall, games, Emmanuel as MC, and a raffle. There will be a special prize for the best-dressed table/group. Considering it is the grand final weekend the theme is 'a sport or sports team'. There is something for everyone, you don't have to answer questions to win a prize!
BYO food and drink/alcohol (we will have a tea and coffee station for gold coin donation). We will have card facilities on the night, however, please bring along some gold coins if possible to make the games run more smoothly.
How can you help: Apart from buying tickets, we would be very grateful for donations of wine to add to our wine wall. These will be wrapped up to keep the label a surprise and people will pay for a lucky dip-style chance at a bottle. In the past, this has been a very lucrative sideshow, so rest assured your donation will be impactful. We would also be grateful for donations suitable for a raffle. A chemistry teacher wanted to teach his class a lesson about the evils of liquor, so he set up an experiment that involved a glass of water, a glass of whiskey, and two worms.
"Now, class, observe what happens to the two the worms," said the teacher, putting the first worm in the glass of water. The worm in the water moved about, twisting, seemingly unharmed.
He then dropped the second worm in the whiskey glass. It wriggled for a moment, then quickly sank to the bottom and died.
"Now kids, what lesson can we derive from this experiment?" he asked.
Little Johnny raised his hand and responded, "Drink whiskey and you won't get worms!"
