Last Thursday to begin our Club Planning Meeting I showed a humorous video of a restauranter who had not made any changes to his establishment for 30 years, could not see the need to make any changes even though the business was failing and clearly was not going to make any changes! There were certainly some parallels with Rotary in this and it was a great way to get discussion going as to where we wish our club to be heading.
I then presented a power point presentation, compiled mostly from information garnered from the recent joint district membership forum attended by three members of our club. Topics were meeting format, projects and partnerships, digital presence, effective use and productive use of volunteers time, and building a ”yes” culture.
This led directly into a sharing of ideas, thoughts and suggestions and I thank everyone for their incredible input and willingness to discuss all aspects of what makes a Rotary Club. To those who have taken on board to work with some of these ideas, I thank you and look forward to the results. If only we had more time for further discussion!!
Members did decide that we would introduce a spoken affirmation of Rotary, delivered by the MC at the start of the meeting, in place of an invocation and the 4 Way Test. We hope this will be a great enhancement to our meeting. If any member not in attendance has a concern about this change, once you experience it, please contact me direct and I will address your issue.
Adelaide City Rotaract has suggested their members be placed on our newsletter email mailing list, which is a great idea, and we thank Richard Jarrett for managing our data base for this to occur. At a recent meeting, John Karran asked for the email addresses of any Rotarians who were not currently receiving the Rotaract FOMO (emailed after each Rotaract meeting) and wished to do so. John will ensure these are added to the Rotaract email mailing list. If you have not already done so and wish to receive FOMO, please contact John Karran.
Barry and myself will be attending the Group 1 meeting next Tuesday and will report to the Board and to the next Club Meeting re the Solar Unit for Rohingya Refugees presentation as distributed via email 10/10/17. Thank you to those who provided their thoughts via email and at Thursday’s breakfast.
Eight club members attended a very successful and enjoyable Polio Plus Fundraiser at the Pagoda Restaurant, organised by Rotary Club of Eastwood. Successful in that monies raised will receive 2:1 subsidy through the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and also that Don, Ellen and myself won prizes.
Thought for the week:
There is always a better way….your challenge is to find it
The combined Rotary Conference to be held in the Barossa Arts and Convention Centre in 2018 will feature a Rotary Showcase where Clubs, District and Rotary affiliated programs can display and issue materials to publicise their activities.
Clubs and Organisations are invited to apply for the allocation of Display Spaces at the Conference. The Convenor of the Rotary Showcase is PP Les Dennis (RC Regency Park) lesdennis@bigpond.com 0408813966. Because this is a combined Conference highlighting Coming Together, it is likely that there will be a heavy demand for available spaces.Convenors and key personnel are urged to contact Les to reserve a spot in the display area asap. The Conference commences at 1pm on Friday 23rd March with Registration open from 9.30am. The conference concludes at 1pm on Sunday 25th March.
