Last Sunday, 18 members and former members honoured David Rowe’s memory by attending a memorial for him at the Kooyonga Golf Club. We were pleased that so many former members could attend (even coming from Ballarat, thanks Terry). Rob McLennan gave a lovely speech about David’s long association with Rotary, thanks Rob.
Unfortunately, I couldn’t attend as I was on a seven day houseboat cruise on the Murray with my family and Elaine (seen in photo being heckled by my nephew Brian who donned a safety vest!). We all took turns driving of the houseboat (out of Morgan). My first holiday in about five or six years. A truly relaxing holiday with the most stunning sunrises!
Last night, member Fatemeh Zarei with her husband Reza and two sons Sinna and Sadra were inducted as Australian citizens. Rob McLennan and John Wotherspoon attended the ceremony to witness the event. Congratulations to the family for gaining their Citizenship Certificates.
Keep this date free – Saturday 30 November 2024 is our Christmas Croquet Challenge event where we play some matches to try to win back our Silver Teapot Trophy from the Rotaract Club of Adelaide City – and then enjoy a wonderfully casual meal and conversation to celebrate the festive season. The Christmas event will be held at the South Terrace Croquet Club from 5.30pm to around 8.30pm.
This coming Thursday is Coffee Catch-up at the White Picket Café, and Friday evening is our Rumi Palace dinner (all sold out).

A man in the grocery store notices a woman with a three-year-old girl in her cart.
As they pass the cookie section, the little girl screams for cookies. The mother says, "Now Missy, we only have a few more aisles to go -- don't throw a fit. It won't be long."
In the candy aisle, the little girl whines for candy. The mother says, "There, there, Missy, don't cry. Two more aisles, and we'll be checking out."
When they get to the checkout stand, the little girl howls for the gum. The mother says, reassuringly, "Missy, we'll be done in five minutes, and then you can go home and have a bottle and a nice snooze."
In the parking lot, the man stops the woman to compliment her. "I couldn't help noticing how patient you were with little Missy," he says.
The mother sighs, "Oh, no -- my little girl's name is Francine. I'm Missy."
