If you intend to walk in the Rotary D9510 “Walk for Respect” (Rotary says No to Domestic Violence) event, please let Ian Delaere know so that you can gather together at the start point in Victoria Square.
 
Four or five of our members will be helping Rob McLennan at the end point of the walk (this year at the Festival Plaza), so Ian would like to know if other members will be joining him for the actual walk down King William Street.
 
This coming Thursday at the Kent Town Hotel from 6pm, we will have a guest speaker Mary Hemmings speaking on the “Mary McKillop Pilgrimage”. See you there.

News from Community Service Committee
Cuppa Conversation was held on 30 August at Boccelli Café and was well attended by new arrivals to Adelaide. More club members in attendance would be nice.
 
Refuge Mentoring continues and daughter Rasa will be attending RYPEN and will be sponsored by our club.
 
Fred’s Van was very busy at the last shift with 60 people being served food.
 
The Catherine House weeding working bee was completed on 19th July. Ten volunteers including some Friends attended.
 
The Domestic Violence ‘Walk For Respect’ will occur on 11th October and volunteers are needed to assist on the day with setting up and guiding walkers.
 
The Community Service Committee, which meets monthly on a Tuesday evening, is looking to increase its membership and is seeking ideas for other projects to make a difference where there is a real need.

An educational walk offering our South Australian community a chance to connect and gain an insight into key signs of Domestic Violence & Coercive Control that surround us.

From 10am - the 1.2km walk starts along King William Street

Then Professor Leah Bromfield, SA Australian of the Year 2025.
 
On the day, choose the group you want to walk with when you arrive in Victoria Square.

Jokes Corner
Several years ago, Andy was sentenced to prison. During his stay, he got along well with the guards and all his fellow inmates. The warden saw that deep down, Andy was a good person and made arrangements for Andy to learn a trade while doing his time.
 
After three years, Andy was recognized as one of the best carpenters in the local area. Often he would be given a weekend pass to do odd jobs for the citizens of the community and he always reported back to prison before Sunday night was over.
 
The warden was thinking of remodeling his kitchen and in fact had done much of the work himself, but he lacked the skills to build a set of kitchen cupboards and a large counter top, which he had promised his wife. So he called Andy into his office and asked him to complete the job for him.
 
But, alas, Andy refused. He told the warden, "Gosh, I'd really like to help you but counter fitting is what got me into prison in the first place."
