Just a quick note today to let you know Pat Welke has resigned from the Club due to her inability to get to meetings; but luckily she will remain a Friend of the Club and attended events as much as is possible with her health issues. Thanks, Pat for you input over the past few years.

This Thursday 14 January will be Coffee Catch-up at the White Picket Café from 9.30am.

Don’t forget to put in your diary the Afghanistan Culture Day Celebration from 6:00pm - 9:30pm at the Ballroom Function Centre, 66 Orsmond Street, Hindmarsh SA 5007, designed to promote love, peace and harmony in the community (following decades of conflict in Afghanistan between different ethnic groups). Provided will be an authentic Afghan dinner (yum), live music, an exhibition of historical photos and information on Afghan cameleers in Australia, arts and paintings, and other fun activities. Join in the festivities to encourage community unity and collaboration. Tickets via EventBrite Afghanistan Culture Day Celebration Tickets, Sun, 1 Feb 2026 at 6:00 pm | Eventbrite.

Just a heads up for Thursday 22 January which will be our Club’s AGM and election of President/officers for the 2026-27 year. Mark it in your diary to attend.

Be Part of the Change! 🌟 Uniting Clubs for a Safer Future.  On Tuesday, 24 February 2025 at the Skyline Restaurant at Rydges Adelaide, 1 South Terrace, the Rotary Metropolitan Adelaide Clubs Community Group Dinner is being held. I sought expressions of interest in attending in December. The booking website isn’t live as yet (I’ll let you know when it is), but here is some further information about the event for you to read. A major guest speaker is being arranged. Join fellow Rotarians and Rotaractors from your Rotary Community Group and beyond as we come together to strengthen our clubs' initiatives and practical actions already underway to end domestic and family violence.  Your presence will help foster connections with our community, business, and government leaders committed to delivering on the recommendations of the recent Royal Commission into Domestic and Family Violence in SA.

Support a Worthy Cause: Contribute to ongoing efforts to end domestic and family violence. When the site for bookings is live, I’ll provide the link in the Newsletter.
Best wishes and have a great week. Yvette, President.

The Four Way Test

The Four Way Test

Of the things we think, say or do:

  1. Is it the Truth?
  2. Is it Fair to all concerned?
  3. Will it build Goodwill and better Friendships?
  4. Will it be Beneficial to all concerned?

Affirmation

United in the spirit of Service we value truth, fairness and friendship; and we welcome the opportunity that Rotary gives us to contribute our talents and resources in support of others.

Rotary Club of Adelaide Light Mission Statement

To have fun and engage interest from new members and friends as we use our strengths for a better world here and abroad - a welcoming, flexible group having fun doing hands-on activities for positive impact.

Jokes Corner
A company, feeling it was time for a shakeup, hires a new CEO. This new boss is determined to rid the company of all slackers.

On a tour of the facilities, the CEO notices a guy leaning on a wall. The room is full of workers and he wants to let them know he means business.

The CEO walks up to the guy and asks, “And how much money do you make a week?” Undaunted, the young fellow looks at him and replies, “I make $600.00 a week, sir. Why?”

The CEO then hands the guy $6,000 in cash and screams, “Here’s ten week’s pay, now GET OUT and don’t come back! No room in this company for people just leaning against walls. Out of there!”

Feeling pretty good about his first firing, the CEO looks around the room and asks, “Does anyone want to tell me what that goof-off did here?”

With a sheepish grin, one of the other workers mutters, “Pizza delivery guy. He was waiting for his tip.”
