Christmas is drawing near and we’re getting ready to celebrate – but first, Community Services Director Kirsti is going to use this Thursday’s breakfast meeting (11 December) to pack 70 Christmas Cheer Bags for Fred’s Van to distribute to people in need on the streets of Adelaide. Paige and Kirsti have organised this and will be bringing all the goodies to stuff the Cheer Bags, which will be delivered on during Adelaide Light's shift on Christmas Eve.
Additionally, Kirsti would also love everyone to bring along a few bars of soap for the William’s Wardrobe Van to distribute to their clientele on the streets. In last week’s newsletter it was mentioned that William’s Wardrobe Van is a new project that our Club has adopted with the Board agreeing to provide $1,000 annually towards petrol for the van over the next three years. If you can’t make Thursday’s meeting, then bring the soaps along on Friday 12 December to our annual Christmas event.
This coming Friday is our Christmas Croquet Challenge with the Adelaide City Rotaract Club, but we are also expecting guests from our Cuppa Conversations group to attend. Unfortunately, I won’t be there, but Rob McLennan, John Wotherspoon and Paul Ensor will officiate, teach members and guests the joys of Croquet, and keep the party going. As it is each year, it should be a wonderful night to celebrate the holiday season.
We had wonderful sales of Christmas trees on our first weekend. Our volunteers sold 44 trees over the weekend (with Saturday’s trees selling out by 11.30am!) with another 15 trees delivered on Sunday. Next week, Rob will be ordering 50 trees! Eight tree stands and quite a few Christmas Cakes were also sold on the day, providing a healthy profit to be used for Club projects. I wanted to let you know that at Thursday's breakfast meeting we will be packing special Christmas cheer bags to hand out our Fred's Van shift on Christmas Eve. Paige and I will be coordinating this and bringing all the goodies but there's 70 bags to fill so we'd relish everyone's help.
Also, if you'd like to donate to William's Wardrobe bring along a bar or 2 (or packet) of soap which Paige and I will collect at the meeting. If you can't get to the meeting, bring it along to the Christmas party or I will be at Bunnings selling trees on Saturday 13th in the first shift.
