Unfortunately I missed last week’s Dinner Meeting and this week our regular Coffee Conversation will be at the White Picket Fence in Dulwich from 9.30am.
 
Remember to ask me for a “Bottle Bag “ if you would like to assist the club with it’s fundraising.
Last financial year the club raised $600 by recycling empty bottles and cans.
This project was started by the late David Rowe some twenty years ago.
 
Our next BBQ at Bunnings Mile End is on Monday 10th November and hopefully we will have enough volunteers to manage the three shifts.
 
This year we will be selling Christmas Trees over two weekends in December commencing on Saturday 6th December and it is great fun, so let me know if you can help.
 
Our Club’s Christmas function will again be at the South Terrace Croquet Club on Friday 12th December with our club competing with the Adelaide City Rotary Club for the old silver teapot, so pop the date in your diary. More details to follow.

Last week's guest speaker
Malcolm Ashwood was guest speaker at our last meeting. He offered many pithily interesting stories about SA sports stars of yesteryear that he wrote about in his book ’The definitive Rulebook’ - I’m sure members could buy a copy for $30 if they let Helen know (a few were sold on the night).  
 
Malcolm played football for many years for the Adelaide University Football Club.  The first story he shared was gaining his own footy nickname of ‘Rulebook’ from his futile attempt to correct an umpire’s understanding of the rulebook in one of his Aussie Rules matches.  His friendly style ensured friends among many SA sports stars across a wide range of codes, invariably happy to feature in his book.  Malcolm 'knew his onions' as they say!

'Lift the Lid' walks for mental health
Australian Rotary Health 'Lift the Lid' walk for mental health
 
 
The Foothills to City Rotary Clubs will host their LIFT THE LID WALKS on Sunday 9th November 2025, offering a choice of 2 great locations - South East Parklands or North East Linear Park.
These walks are a great way to spread awareness of the 1 in 5 Australians who are suffering from a mental illness. Help us Lift the Lid on Mental Illness this spring by walking!
 
Registrations from 8:00 am, a Welcome address at 8:30 am, before the 9:00 am walk start.
 
Cost - $30 - adults, children - free
All proceeds go into mental health research through Australian Rotary Health.

Rotary Wine tour
Rotary Club of Adelaide Parks have invited us to join them on a wine tour as they have a few seats  left on the bus tour to 3 or 4 wineries in the Adelaide Hills.
 
Cost $30 excluding tastings.
Leaves at 9am from the Navy and Military Club at 111 Hutt Steet, Adelaide, Saturday 1st November.
