As part of the Centenary of Rotary in South Australia this year, the RC of Adelaide started a project of erecting 100 Peace Poles donated by Rotary Clubs. Our Club purchased a Peace Pole recently and have organised for it to be placed in the Clovelly Park Primary School where Erfan and Manizha’s son Tawhid goes to school. All Club members are invited to attend the Peace Pole Ceremony on Thursday 21 September (International Peace Day) at 9.00am at Clovelly Park Primary School, 1 Renown Place, Clovelly Park at a morning school assembly. Over the past few weeks, I have been working with the Principal Terena Pope and Assistant Principal Emma Voigt and they have graciously had a garden area replanted ready for the Peace Pole to be cemented into the ground a few days prior to the event. The School has also organised for a Coffee Van to be present, they have invited parents and friends to come along to the Ceremony, and they are putting on a morning tea for invited guests. I suggest you find a park early or car pool (8.15ish) as parking on the streets nearby is at a premium. Come early for your first Coffee of the morning. Speakers on the day will be Principal Ms Terena Pope, myself, Erfan and (tbc) one of their teachers who is Indonesian. Our Peace Pole has the words “May Peace Prevail on Earth” in four languages – English, Kaurna, Persian Dari, and Bahasa (Indonesian). I will send out an email in the next few days. The prizes are been gathered; wine for the wine wall and auction have been received; the questions and table competitions have been produced, and now we’re ready to test our knowledge and/or guesses at our Rotary/Rotaract’s Quiz Night on Friday 29 September 6pm-10.30pm. After the success of last year's Mitchell’s Riesling, we’re pleased to offer another excellent Clare Valley Riesling at a heavy discount… this time from Jim Barry.
This showcase Riesling is what the Clare does best from the Barry Family’s Lodge Hill vineyard. It’s an A-grade wine from a high quality Clare Valley producer - a superbly bracing, concentrated and limey Riesling we're able to sell for just $150.00 per case ($12.50/bottle… i.e. half price).
Lodge Hill was Wolta Wolta pastoral run from 1839. Jim Barry bought it in 1977 for The Lodge Hill Vineyard, convinced it would “produce some of the best Riesling in the Clare Valley.” At 480 metres above sea level in Clare Valley's Eastern Ranges, its grapes receive concentrated bursts of sunlight and cool nights that encourage slower ripening. This helps deliver beautiful natural acidity and citrus characters that ripen early because of the small crop it produces. Gentle pressing and a rapid move into the fermentation preserves the natural fruit flavours.
Essentially, it’s just a deliciously drinkable. So why not buy some and help others by funding our local and overseas Rotary service work, while giving your friends and family a very good deal. This fundraiser will help our Rotary Club build water supplies in Timor Lesté, rescue Afghans stranded in Pakistan as they flee the Taliban and also help recent migrants to Australia quickly feel welcome.

Alison (Youth & Vocation Committee) wishes to strengthen our Club’s relationship with Adelaide City Rotaract, and seeks the support of 3 other Club members. This is to form a rotating Attendance Roster so that one Rotary member attends one (only) of AC-Rotaract’s two general meetings per month, at the Astor Hotel, City. No pre-meeting preparation work is required.
Our attendance at AC Rotaract’s meet on 11/9/23 was clearly appreciated as strongly as our enjoyment of their reports and presentation.

Tell me more: The quiz night will feature the usual favourites; a wine wall, games, Emmanuel as MC, and a raffle. There will be a special prize for the best-dressed table/group. Considering it is the grand final weekend the theme is 'a sport or sports team'. There is something for everyone, you don't have to answer questions to win a prize!
BYO food and drink/alcohol (we will have a tea and coffee station for gold coin donation). We will have card facilities on the night, however, please bring along some gold coins if possible to make the games run more smoothly.
How can you help: Apart from buying tickets, we would be very grateful for donations of wine to add to our wine wall. These will be wrapped up to keep the label a surprise and people will pay for a lucky dip-style chance at a bottle. In the past, this has been a very lucrative sideshow, so rest assured your donation will be impactful. We would also be grateful for donations suitable for a raffle. The room was full of pregnant women and their partners.The Lammas class was in full swing.
The instructor was teaching the women how to breathe properly, and informing the men how to give the necessary assurances and coaching at this stage of the plan.
"Ladies, exercise is good for you," announced the teacher. "Walking is especially beneficial. And, gentlemen, it wouldn't hurt you to take the time to go walking with your partner!"
The room was very quiet. Finally, a guy in the group raised his hand. "Yes?" asked the instructor.
"Is it okay if she carries a golf bag while we walk?"
