As this coming Friday 15 December is the new date for our Christmas Party/Croquet Challenge, we won’t be meeting this Thursday morning at the Croquet Club. Instead you can always come along for a coffee at the White Picket Café on Thursday at 9.30am.
Our Christmas Trees sales last weekend was the best ever sales we’ve had. Rob ordered 50 trees (to sell for $99) for the Saturday and another 15 for the Sunday that were all sold along with another 9 stands. Plus, the company delivered a couple of extra slightly misshapen trees at no charge and I’m sure Bunnings will help to sell these during the week. Our thanks to those who volunteered on a blustery, cold weekend – Kirsti, Paul E, Liz, Di, Don, Angus, Katey, Richard, Alison, Paul J, John W, Fred and Rob.
Our BBQ on Monday 11 December was also a day of blustery cold weather with occasional bits of sun, but unfortunately our third shift had to pack up in torrential rain at about 3pm! However, we did sell out of snags before the end of the last shift, so all the volunteers need to be thanked for their sterling efforts! Thanks to Don, Paul E, John W, Fred, Elaine, Di, Angus, Graham Smith, Rob and Sacha Espinoza.

Come and enjoy the company of friends at our BBQ with sausages, hamburgers, kebabs, vegetarian patties (for vegans) and salads (some gluten/dairy free salads available) etc while celebrating the festive season.
Alex has let us know that his knee operation went very well and he is now on the road to recovery over the next six weeks of rehab.

Grenache is a McLaren Vale specialty, medium bodied and more complex than pinot noir - essentially an easy drinking summer substitute for shiraz, without its earthiness. This one from Hither & Yon is bright, juicy and lively with food - ideal in the warmer months ahead. You may detect wild strawberry, raspberry, blackberry, black cherry, stewed plums, some spicy cinnamon and black pepper. With time to breathe it comes across confidently on the first night and endures for the second.

"From the Leask brothers’ youngest Grenache vines at 13 years old, crafted into a youthful, fragrant, bistro style with 20% whole bunch influence in the winemaking that offers a subtle sappiness in the palate. While you are being seduced by its floral aromas and freshly squeezed plum and apple juiciness, you should pause for a mo, as it has plenty to offer in its textural game, lip-smacking and with an appealing spicy/peppery tannin profile in the palate and finish. Bistro, yes, and very food conscious as well – its own crew suggests pairing it with the vegetable and cheese pasty from the Willunga Bakery."
