Last Thursday’s speaker, Sue Crees, at the Kent Town Hotel was very informative about the beautiful William Morris windows at All Souls Anglican Church on Stephen Terrace, St Peters. Sue told us the history of each window and the reason certain Saints were chosen to tell a particular story. A delightful insight into historic lead-lighting, with some windows paid for by parishioners to commemorate loved ones who passed away.
Last Saturday, 350 more native trees and grasses were planted at the Adelaide City Council’s Carbon Offset Demonstration site in Park 4, North Adelaide. We had 15 people - Rotarians and Latino friends from our Cuppa Conversations - helping out as well as three people from the Adelaide City Council led by Stephanie Legg, the Leading Hand for Horticulture-Biodiversity. After a foggy start, the sun came out to help the little seedlings get a good head start in the cold weather conditions.
On Sunday, I attended the Changeover of the Adelaide City Rotaract Club. After a very successful year, Nic Egan handed over the Presidential Chain to Steph Hopkins, who had delayed for a month so that her family could attend when they returned from holidays. During the Changeover, Katey Halliday was presented with a Honorary Membership of ACRC for her significant contribution to the community through Rotaract, for promoting international understanding and high ethical standards. Don’t forget to book into our inaugural cooking class – to learn about authentic Mexican cuisine – to be held on Saturday 12 August at 1.00pm. Bookings are essential through Carol (click here to email your acceptance). Cost is $20pp to cover ingredients. Funds raised will be used to assist Erfan’s brother and family when they arrive in Adelaide.
Paige has now sent out information about the Quiz Night for Timor Leste. Secure your tickets through Humanitix (check Paige’s link in her email) for the event to be held on Friday 29 September, 6pm-10pm at Wyatt Hall, Pulteney Grammar School, 190 South Terrace, Adelaide. It promises to be a great night with fun, laughter, a wine wall, a raffle, and great prizes. Get together a group of friends or family – if you can’t fill an entire table, we’ll be able to join groups together if needed. Tickets are $20 each. As the Quiz Night is scheduled for the night before the Footy Grand Final, feel free to dress up with a sport’s team theme and win a special prize for the best-dressed group. Members, please feel free to donate wine for our wine wall (wrapped up so that no-one knows what they’re getting), or something for the “lucky dip”. All funds will go towards school or water projects in remote villages in Timor Leste.

I’ve been having a great time with Manizha (Erfan’s wife) with twice weekly driving and parking lessons so that she can soon take her test to go from “L” plates to “P” plates. The family’s hospitality is very much appreciated when I visit also!

Tell me more: The quiz night will feature the usual favourites; a wine wall, games, Emmanuel as MC, and a raffle. There will be a special prize for the best-dressed table/group. Considering it is the grand final weekend the theme is 'a sport or sports team'. There is something for everyone, you don't have to answer questions to win a prize!
BYO food and drink/alcohol (we will have a tea and coffee station for gold coin donation). We will have card facilities on the night, however, please bring along some gold coins if possible to make the games run more smoothly.
How can you help: Apart from buying tickets, we would be very grateful for donations of wine to add to our wine wall. These will be wrapped up to keep the label a surprise and people will pay for a lucky dip-style chance at a bottle. In the past, this has been a very lucrative sideshow, so rest assured your donation will be impactful. We would also be grateful for donations suitable for a raffle. I decide to do work on the car, I start to the garage and notice the mail on the table. OK, I'm going to work on the car... BUT FIRST... I'm going to go through the mail.
Lay car keys down on desk. After discarding the junk mail, I notice the rubbish bin is full. OK, I'll just put the bills on my desk.... BUT FIRST...
I'll take the rubbish out, but since I'm going to be near the mailbox, I'll address a few bills.... Yes. Now, where is the chequebook? Oops..there's only one cheque left. Where did I put the extra cheques? Oh, there is my empty cup from last night on my desk. I'm going to look for those cheques... BUT FIRST...
I need to put the cup back in the kitchen. I head for the kitchen, look out the window, notice the flowers need a drink of water, I put the cup on the sink and there's my extra pair of glasses on the kitchen counter. What are they doing here? I'll just put them away... BUT FIRST...
I need to water those plants. I head for the door and... Aaaagh! someone left the TV remote in the wrong spot. Okay, I'll put the remote away and water the plants... BUT FIRST...
I need to find those cheques.
END OF DAY: Oil in car not changed, bills still unpaid, cup still on the sink, chequebook still has only one cheque left, lost my car keys,... And, when I try to figure out how come nothing got done today, I'm baffled because... I KNOW I WAS BUSY ALL DAY! I realize this condition is serious... I'd get help... BUT FIRST...
