On Thursday 19 June, our Club will hold its Changeover – or Rollover of Presidency – at The Caledonian Hotel, 219 O’Connell Street, North Adelaide in the Barton Room, 6.30pm for 6.45pm start. This special occasion celebrates the great projects we’ve undertaken, gives us the opportunity to thank those who have contributed to our Club’s successes, and see the photos of our year’s events. Once again, I’ve organised two different price points for the 2-course meals (set entrée and choice of mains), and you can order and pay for your own drinks and desserts (if you have a sweet tooth). In next week’s newsletter I should know the available menus for the two price points (ie a schnitzel meal compared to a salmon dish). Gluten free options will be available – just let the staff know when you order. Please book your seats for yourself and partner/friend at president@rotaryadelaidelight.org - it will be a great evening.
John Wotherspoon has been working hard to bring you another spectacular Robert “Rabbie” Burns dinner on 11 June (6.15pm start) at the Edinburgh Hotel, 7 High Street, Mitcham if you feel like a Scottish night of entertainment with song, dance and theatrics - and an entree taste of haggis (optional, of course)! The meal should be spectacular again. Don’t forget to book quickly as there are only 20 seats left; book your place via john@wothers.net.
Yesterday (Monday) we held another successful fundraising BBQ at Bunnings Mile End. Weather was glorious and company of friends even better! Thanks to Rob who once again organised the roster and food, and to the day’s helpers Rob’s friend Emily, Fred Field and long-time helper Liz Suarez as well as members Paul E, Dean, Yvette, John, Di, Pat, Angus, Bruce and Rob. The first shift was a little slow, but demand ramped up for the rest of the day. Thanks everyone for volunteering – without you we couldn’t achieve a budget to run our Club’s diverse projects throughout the year.

Our happy little Rotary Club has just acquired a pallet of Mitchell's outstanding 2018 Kalmar Shiraz @ $150/dozen - a cut above the average shiraz. 🍷
2018 was a fine vintage and it sells on Wine Direct for $45/bottle but China’s helped us to offer it for 70% less than that… so, it’s understandably popular.

The Kalmar Vineyard takes its name from the homestead that has housed the Mitchell family for three generations. A classic Clare Valley Shiraz with style and great flavour.

G R O W I N G C O N D I T I O N S
2018 growing season was warm and dry. Despite this, the vines were in a perfectly balanced and healthy state heading into vintage. All canopies in the vineyard were strong and full, the fruit set and ripening was consistent with fantastic flavours. Clare Valley at its best!
W I N E M A K I N G
The juice for this wine was fermented open slate tanks, including a whole bunch component. Hand plunged and a slow ferment to capture the natural flavours from the vineyard. The wine is then aged in French oak barrels for 18 months before being bottled without filtration.
Scotland’s best loved bard... Robert (Rabbie) Burns is celebrated at dinners all over the world on his birthday, 25 January 1759. Yet it’s a decidedly unScottish summer here in January, so we prefer to make merry over this rascally poet during our Antipodean winter instead.
Please join us for another theatrically Scottish dinner at the Edinburgh Hotel’s Victoria Room on Wednesday 11 June for only $65 each. There’ll be toasts, bagpipes, dancing and merriment with a Haggis entrée option or the Ed's entrée if you prefer, then a four-choice main meal. Our piper, Ethan will thrill us with his address to the haggis as he’s done before. Drinks will be available from the bar.
Maybe dress a little Scottish? Our friend, Rosemary has Scottish connections that enable her to freely loan you a kilt if you wish, just ask.
