Congratulations to Erfan and Manizha Abidi on the birth of their beautiful daughter Nahid on 3 May. A sister to their three lovely boys, and a wonderful blessing for their extended family in Australia.
After being infected with Covid at the Presidents Elect Preparation/District Assembly weekend on 4 & 5 May, I recovered in time to celebrate Mother’s Day and volunteer at last Monday’s Bunnings BBQ.
Rob, Kirsti and John W have been touring Timor Leste with members of D9560 (Northern Australia and Timor Leste) inspecting potential and current projects. With limited access to network coverage, photos have been sporadic but some early images are attached of the tour group from Australia, a dance troupe on the first night and some Timorese kindy kids. John mentions that shifting our international focus nearer to home was a wise choice – as they truly still need a great deal of help recovering from the Indonesian “scorched earth” departure over 20 years ago. We look forward to welcoming them back home in the next week.
A trip for the Cuppa Conversation migrants has been arranged for Saturday 25 May. We have booked a 25-seater and 12-seater bus which will allow about 30 guests and Rotarians on board. Any overflow may be covered if Rotarians wish to drive their car down with extra passengers on board when we do our tour of Victor Harbor, Pt Elliot and Goolwa. The trip will start at 9.30am and we’ll be back in Adelaide around 4.00pm. Lili will arrange seating and extra cars/drivers if required.
Our Club’s Changeover dinner will be held in the Barton Room in the Caledonian Hotel, O’Connell Street, North Adelaide on Friday 21 June, 6.30pm for a 7.00pm start. Please keep this date free for our annual event. More details to come soon. Vegetarian and Gluten-free options available.
By all accounts, last Thursday’s breakfast think-tank at the Croquet Club led by Paul Jupp was a great success. We’ll be holding a similar one on a Thursday evening soon to garner additional ideas from members who couldn’t attend breakfast due to work or touring commitments.
This week’s meeting will be 9.30am at the White Picket café.
