Last Thursday, we held the Peace Pole unveiling at the Clovelly Park Primary School. Our sincere thanks to Principal Terena Pope (who was unavailable on the day), Deputy Principal Kylie Tuckey (who spoke for her) and Assistant Principal Emma Voigt for rehearsing the children to stand and sing the National Anthem, for organising a wonderful performance of John Lennon’s “Imagine” by six students, and reciting the 2,500 year-old Laozi Peace Poem by five students (including Erfan’s Mowahid). The half hour Ceremony went like clockwork thanks to Emma Voigt and her trusty band of helpers. There was a great crowd of our Rotarians (see photo) and parents who attended the event, but due to photo permissions, a full crowd scene wasn’t taken. The day was also attended by PDG Ed King (on behalf of DG Craig Dowling), Nadia Clancy MP (Member for Elder), and Tim McLeod, Education Director (Noarlunga 1 area).

Thanks to Lili, Rob and John W for organising a Cuppa Conversation walk to Morialta Falls last Saturday. This came about from last month’s Cuppa Conversation at a Café when Rob learnt that a lot of the migrants don’t have cars and don’t get out of the city, so he broached the idea with the Club to round up drivers from our membership so we could show them the sights. After meeting our 25 migrants in town, we drove to the beautiful Morialta Conservation Park for a 40 minute walk, grabbed a coffee from the in-situ van, then two cars headed back to Adelaide while the rest of us headed to the top of Mt Lofty to see the city and suburbs spreading from the northern to southern districts. Our thanks to drivers Carol, Alex & Maria, Javier, John W, Rob, Lili, Yvette and Barry Blakeborough (President of Walkerville Club). The weather was stunning and the conversation was lively. A lovely day in the great outdoors!

Grenache is a McLaren Vale specialty, medium bodied and more complex than pinot noir - essentially an easy drinking summer substitute for shiraz, without its earthiness. This one from Hither & Yon is bright, juicy and lively with food - ideal in the warmer months ahead. You may detect wild strawberry, raspberry, blackberry, black cherry, stewed plums, some spicy cinnamon and black pepper. With time to breathe it comes across confidently on the first night and endures for the second.

"From the Leask brothers’ youngest Grenache vines at 13 years old, crafted into a youthful, fragrant, bistro style with 20% whole bunch influence in the winemaking that offers a subtle sappiness in the palate. While you are being seduced by its floral aromas and freshly squeezed plum and apple juiciness, you should pause for a mo, as it has plenty to offer in its textural game, lip-smacking and with an appealing spicy/peppery tannin profile in the palate and finish. Bistro, yes, and very food conscious as well – its own crew suggests pairing it with the vegetable and cheese pasty from the Willunga Bakery."

After the success of last year's Mitchell’s Riesling, we’re pleased to offer another excellent Clare Valley Riesling at a heavy discount… this time from Jim Barry.
This showcase Riesling is what the Clare does best from the Barry Family’s Lodge Hill vineyard. It’s an A-grade wine from a high quality Clare Valley producer - a superbly bracing, concentrated and limey Riesling we're able to sell for just $150.00 per case ($12.50/bottle… i.e. half price).
Lodge Hill was Wolta Wolta pastoral run from 1839. Jim Barry bought it in 1977 for The Lodge Hill Vineyard, convinced it would “produce some of the best Riesling in the Clare Valley.” At 480 metres above sea level in Clare Valley's Eastern Ranges, its grapes receive concentrated bursts of sunlight and cool nights that encourage slower ripening. This helps deliver beautiful natural acidity and citrus characters that ripen early because of the small crop it produces. Gentle pressing and a rapid move into the fermentation preserves the natural fruit flavours.
Essentially, it’s just a deliciously drinkable. So why not buy some and help others by funding our local and overseas Rotary service work, while giving your friends and family a very good deal. This fundraiser will help our Rotary Club build water supplies in Timor Lesté, rescue Afghans stranded in Pakistan as they flee the Taliban and also help recent migrants to Australia quickly feel welcome.

This past Saturday, we had a wonderful time with 26 enthusiastic migrant guests and our welcoming Rotarians under beautiful weather. Exploring Morialta's waterfalls, admiring Mt Lofty's panoramic views, drinking coffee, and chatting were all memorable experiences. Thank you to everyone who got involved, but especially to Barry Blakeborough of the Walkerville Club for being a part of this special activity!

Considering it is the grand final weekend the theme is 'a sport or sports team'. There is something for everyone, you don't have to answer questions to win a prize!
BYO food and drink/alcohol (we will have a tea and coffee station for gold coin donation). We will have card facilities on the night, however, please bring along some gold coins if possible to make the games run more smoothly.
How can you help: Apart from buying tickets, we would be very grateful for donations of wine to add to our wine wall. These will be wrapped up to keep the label a surprise and people will pay for a lucky dip-style chance at a bottle. In the past, this has been a very lucrative sideshow, so rest assured your donation will be impactful. We would also be grateful for donations suitable for a raffle.
