Aftermath of a bushfire

Emilis trained as an architect in the 1960s.  He operates his own practice, is a Commissioner of the ERC Court of SA, and is refereed as the state building energy expert to BRAC.  In a busy life his personal interests have included unpowered aircraft, hybrid and electric cars and environment conservation initiatives.  Emilis' presentation will be through the lens of being the Logistics Manager for the NGO SA Veterinary Emergency Management (SAVEM). During the Sampson Flat bushfire SAVEM deployed 70 trained volunteers in roster rotation for 6 weeks, triaging about 750 call outs involving in excess of 1000 animals across the fireground.  Within the State Emergency Management Plan protocols, the veterinarians do the clinical tasks, and Emilis and his teams underpin this with 'obtain, maintain,sustain'.  Emilis will speak about why we care about animals, how this impacts on human decision making, and varied experiences in the turmoil of bushfire events and places.
