South Australian Rail Networks

Club member and retired magistrate Fred Field has had a long interest in trains and related matters.  In the 19th century, broad gauge was chosen for South Australian railways.  Soon numerous narrow gauge lines were built to connect agricultural areas to local ports.  Such decisions have bedevilled the railway system in South Australia ever since, and Fred will elaborate on the consequences.
