Rotary International District 6540 held that annual World Affairs Conference at Twin Lakes High School March 14, 2011.  The main topic of this year's Conference was outsourcing.  The Mission Statement for the event was...

 
The Mission Statement for the event was; The Purpose-to provide an opportunity to excite, inspire, and develop awareness of high school students concerning global issues, The Business-experts share knowledge, interactive exchange of ideas and solutions, The Value-empower and develop students to become competent, confident, and caring leaders.  The conference consisted of 3 guest speakers.  The first speaker was Dave Miller, the former Elkhart mayor who spoke about "The History of Outsourcing, impact on community, changing attitudes of citizens."  The second was John Southern and/or Tod Tieszen, senior procurement manager & President, respectively, for Vista Lighting Worldwide LLC, who spoke about the "Positive and Negative Ramifications of Outsourcing."  The last speaker was Dr. Elizabeth Tuleja, an educator at Notre Dame who spent 3 years teaching & developing programs at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, her topic was "Working in a Global Environment."  At this event, students had the opportunity to interact with these speakers through Q&A sessions and expressed their own insights, opinions, & perspectives during small group break-out sessions moderated by adults participants.  The Delphi students who attended stated that they gained a better understanding & respect of other cultures & the importance of knowing a second language in the business environment.  Over 800 high school students participate in this educational event in Northern Indiana.  Students invited to the Conference included selected juniors/seniors, Interactors, Rotary Youth Leadership Awards attendees, & Youth Study Exchange students.  The Delphi students who attended the World Affairs Conference were, Delphi Rotary exchange student Mafer Barrios, Sassi Gehricke, Ranjith Gopi, Taylor Hudelson, Jordan Hudelson, Josephine Iser, Michael Kitimet, Sarah Kunert, Lotta Laamanen, Johnny Little, Allison Million, Michalea Pedrowicz, Ambar Porta, & Haley Sales.  DCSC Superintendent Ralph Walker, transported and participated in the event.
