Time to dust off those golf clubs! Learn more about what you can do now to improve your game.
Each month Club Members are responsible for providing the program for our meeting. Below is the list for April through September 2015.
This Week at Rotary March 31,2015
President Kathy Jacobson presided over the meeting. Special guests: Gordon Schurber of Illinois and Brian and Marsha Banninga.
Dale McKenzie was the Sergeant-at-Arms and had some great trivia questions for the club. He was also the program host.
Dan Parker, a board member of the White River Dune Committee was invited by Dale to speak about the progress of the dune conservation project.
The group has been actively working toward obtaining an additional two acres along Lake Michigan near Old Channel Inn. This area has been established as a Critical Dune area; this area is identified as such based on location and pitch. This area will be protected as no motor traffic wll be permitted nor will any buildings be constructed. The ownership will be retained by the White River Township who will provide some policing and portable restroom facilities in the busy summer months. The committee was able to get an agreement with the current owner to sell the land for approximately $900,000. They are going to apply funding for 75% of the funds and will need to raise approximately $400,000 within 18 months. The kickoff will be on July 9th at the site along Lake Michigan. In an effort to raise funds, they have partnered with Klinefelters Gallery to sell aerial views of the dunes; these will be on display at various businesses around the community including the libraries and the HarborLight Credit Union. They will set up a booth at the Father's Day weekend craft sale and at Celebrate White Lake to share information with the public about the project.
Next weeks program will be hosted by Miriam Leeke. The meeting concluded at 1:20pm.
