Our club is again sponsoring a Rotary Youth Exchange student for the coming school year. At last week's meeting, we welcomed Noa Ferreira-Trindade to our club. Noa is from Domont, France, a suburb just north of Paris. Noa will start school this week, attending Palmer HS. Her first host family is Rotarian Cass Daley's -- joining daughters Tuesday and Emerald who both attend Palmer plus husband Patrick Doyle.
Noa is just one of 29 Rotary exchange students in District 5470 representing over 20 countries. They will all gather for the first time in Durango in mid-September and have other all-student activities during the year -- District Conference in Cripple Creek (4-6 Oct) and potential outbounder interviews in Grand Junction (early December).
Noa will visit our club meetings about once each month. Her exchange year is overseen by Rotarians Carol Bach (Youth Exchange Officer), Laurel McLeod (Youth Counselor), Juliana Howard (Exchange Volunteer) and Dennis Shoemaker (City Group Coordinator) -- each of these individuals go through a vetting and training process to meet US Dept of State rules regarding exchange students.
