Greetings My Fellow Rotarians,

The first month in the new Rotary year is behind us.  Yes, it is August already!  Time for back-to-school for however that may look this month.  Speaking of education, we are fortunate to have the Dean of Education for UCCS as our speaker this Friday.  I also have a surprise for you for our Words of Appreciation and the Song of the Day.  The Sunday edition of The Gazette will be particularly interesting somewhere in the business section.  Let me know what you think once you read it 😊. 

The Whitney Memorial Golf Tournament still needs golfers.  Let your golf buddies know.  Here is the Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/events/243644873334277/).  For those of you without Facebook, you can share this as well, www.kylewhitneygolf.com.  Thank you for your support with this.

We will have a short briefing during the meeting on Friday about a potential club project.  Thank you Samantha Chapman for finding this opportunity for us.  It’s a water project that I think will interest you.

"Pikes Peak Crime Stoppers"
Objectives
The main objectives of Pikes Peak Area Crime Stoppers are to reduce the crime rate in the Pikes Peak region – El Paso and Teller Counties, help law enforcement agencies solve crimes, and bring fugitives to justice. 

The program pays cash rewards for anonymous tips leading to the felony arrest of suspects or wanted felons, the recovery of narcotics, stolen property and cash. 

Mission Statement
Pikes Peak Area Crime Stoppers is a community partnership that works to keep our region safer by offering cash rewards to citizens who remain anonymous and provide information on criminal activity in the 4th Judicial District.

How Does Crime Stoppers Work?
  • Call the tip line at 719-634-STOP (7867) or Submit A Tip Online
  • You will be asked questions but will NOT be asked for your name.
  • You will be given a code number to uniquely identify your tip.  Do NOT share your code number or tip information with anyone!
  • Crime Stoppers posts reward eligible tip numbers in the weekly Crime Stoppers Featured Fugitives of the Week article that appears every Monday in the Local section of The Gazette and on the WANTED page of this web site.

Two hunters are out in the woods when one of them collapses. He’s not breathing and his eyes are glazed. The other guy whips out his cell phone and calls 911.

“I think my friend is dead!” he yells. “What can I do?”

The operator says, “Calm down. First, let’s make sure he’s dead.”

There’s a silence, then a shot. Back on the phone, the guy says, “OK, now what?”

Greetings, Rotarians!
 
We are officially in August and this kooky year is flying by! I know that I had a completely different set of expectations of 2020.
This month, our Rotary theme is MEMBERSHIP! Obviously we want to grow our club (and President Rodney says we're going to grow our club by NOT focusing on membership!) but before we even think about growing, we need to celebrate our current club members! I have an eternal well of gratitude for many of our members. One of those devoted Rotarians is our executive director, Claudine Dickson. Everyone knows her by her first name (exactly like Cher and Madonna!) and most club members have needed something at one time or fifty that she's provided or she's directed us to where we need to go. She is all things rotary! If she doesn't know something, she finds out. She is better at multi-tasking than anyone else I know. I don't think anyone knows how much time and effort she puts in to keep our club running smoothly! She has a heart for giving back. She's not looking for recognition, which is the most admirable type of giving. I'm not sure if everyone in the club knows that Claudine is a full fledged Rotarian, just like us! When I was at Rotary training in February, I was the only person from a club that has an Executive Director. These were all much smaller clubs but even so, it made me realize how lucky we are to have someone that does reports and billings and everything that our club leaders would have to learn to do. If you get a chance, give our Club WonderWoman some elbow bumpin' love!
 
In addition to appreciating our club's Executive Director, next week starts a new column, highlighting Rotarians in our club each week! So be sure and take the time to check out the new column!
 
I believe that no matter how busy a person is in life, taking time to thank people is so worthwhile. And the warm feeling in your heart by seeing them being appreciated is the best! I'm issuing a challenge and I'm participating as well. Think of 3 club members that you want to thank for whatever reason you appreciate them. It might be their leadership or their friendship, or seeing them smile across the room. You know those people that walk into the room and everything changes? The energy changes. People smile and laugh more. You just simply feel good with that person being there. We have some phenomenal people in our club and won't it be fun this week to know that you're surprising them with a thoughtful compliment! (Extra points for handwriting and snail mailing!) I have way more than 3 Rotarians that I appreciate but it will get me started!
 
I hope you all have the best weekend and write lots of thank-you notes!
