Christmas Holiday Program
Christmas Holiday Program

Members and their Family and Friends are cordially invited to attend this years Rotary Holiday Program. This years Program will fiture the America The Beautiful Chorus.

America the Beautiful Chorus is Colorado Spring’s premier barbershop chorus. We are a community of men who appreciate music old and new, but focus on learning, preserving, and spreading the musical style of men’s barbershop, which is 4-part a cappella harmony.

Our last meeting of the year, 12/14, will be our holiday party.  If you plan on bringing a guest, please email
no later than Tuesday 12/11 so that I may notify the Antler's as to how many spirited guests we will be expecting.

Thanks,

Claudine

Our Global Grant Scholar - Jourdan McGinn

On our recent visit to London this week, Liz and I met for lunch with our Global Grant Scholar from 2016, Jourdan McGinn.  Jourdan graduated with distinction from the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine with a Master's Degree in Public Health.  She is now working in Sierra Leone as the Director of Policy & Partnerships for Partners in Health.  We were joined by Neil & Doreen Beeton from the Rotary Club of Newport-Pagnell, England, Jourdan's host club during her scholarship period.  We're hoping to be able to support a Global Grant project jointly at the district level in Rotary's Maternal & Child Health focus area. What a delight to see one of Rotary's Foundation scholars doing good in the world.

Refurbishment of Primary Care Clinic: Before the 2014-15 Ebola outbreak, Sierra Leone suffered some of the worst health outcomes of any country in the world. Ebola devastated an already fragile health system—loss of staff and shaken community confidence in health facilities have led to the further deterioration of health services and outcomes. The primary care clinics, the health facilities closest to every Sierra Leonean family, are the most visibly affected with most having little or no electricity, no running water, and dilapidated and broken beds, walls, and equipment. We believe that if we are to truly transform the health system in Sierra Leone, we need to start with the places closest to the people we are serving and we need to ensure that those places are dignified so that we can restore communities’ confidence in the health system. Rotary could support in refurbishing one or more of these clinics by investing in solar systems to ensure 24/7 electricity so women don’t deliver in dark, to the light of a mobile phone. Rotary could support in getting running water connected, walls painted, and new furniture to make the space safe, functional, and beautiful for the patients it serves.
2019-20 Officer Nominations
President-Elect Caryn Adams announced the report of the nominating committee for Board of Directors for 2019-20 at the November 16th meeting.  Will be voted on at club meeting on this Friday, December 7th. There is a provision in the by-laws (available on the club webpage) to allow for nomination of someone for a position by any member rather than from the committee.  These, in-writing, nominations would have been due NLT November 23, 2018.  As there were no additional nominations from the club and only one nominee has been presented for each position,  our election meeting on Friday will be very short, per the By-Laws

Section 7.4.  Election.  The membership shall elect the Officers and the new Directors for the upcoming year at its Annual Meeting.

If at the time of the election, only one nominee is standing for a given vacancy, the President shall declare that the nominee duly elected to that position.  A vote by secret printed ballot shall take place when the number of nominees for any given position exceeds the number of vacancies for that position.

Section 7.3.  Nomination by Others.  Within seven days following the presentation of the report of the Nominating Committee, any Member may nominate any other Member of the Club in good financial standing to any vacancy which may exist for the up-coming fiscal year.  Such nomination must be in writing, shall include a statement signed by the nominee of his or her willingness to serve, must be countersigned by five other Members of the Club, and shall specify the position for which the nominee is to be a candidate.  Such nomination must be delivered to the President not later than 7 days following the presentation of the report by the Nominating Committee.
