0Last week's program, concluding the Diamond Awards for this year, was very special in many ways. We gave an Impact Award to a teacher who might not otherwise have had large numbers of nominations because he teaches special education students and others who would not necessarily write letters on his behalf. It was very meaningful, indeed. We also awarded Diamond Awards to two English teachers. The program included a tribute and bouquets of flowers to some volunteers who have been with the program for 18 years as well as special recognition to Jack Kinney, our architect and creator of the awards. See his note to the club below. We can't thank Jack enough for his tireless work...and now he's onto another project (we'll keep it a surprise, for now!).
A great idea from Bob Chastain that I'd like to initiate is having Rotarians give a little update or job opening or something of interest to our club during the meeting, if we have time. Our agendas are usually very full and it couldn't take too much time (maybe two minutes) but could prompt discussion with the Rotarian who mentioned it after the meetings. I can see if it will work. Bob was interested in doing so because he has a job opening at the zoo and he feels that he could get some good applicants, perhaps, by bringing it to the members' attention. As he said, there's nothing like adding 100 more people to think about this opportunity at the zoo. It could only last around two minutes total for everyone who wishes to speak and if it becomes too lengthy, we can figure out another way (perhaps in this newsletter) to inform the membership. My fear is that I'll have to cut off the information without some having the time to present their short message.
Please pay your dues as they are now past due for the last billing. If you didn't get the bill by email please contact Claudine and she can resend it. Check to see that it was paid if you don't do it yourself and you have your organization pay it for you.
I saw a few Rotarians at the meeting last week who I haven't seen in quite some time. Great to have you back!
By the way, I requested fried chicken more often - it really tasted good last week. Shall I start a petition to have it once a month?
The committee that selects the Rotary Scholars from two District 11 high schools met Tuesday and selected the two lucky and exceptional seniors. Jackie Valenzuela is from Mitchell and Megan Barney is from Palmer. The committee consisted of: Dan Fauth (chairman), Laura Nonte, Bill Rhea, and Cass Daley. Great work team! The two students and their families will be our guests at our May 25 meeting in the Mining Exchange.

Our Club has decided to establish an ongoing program for sharing Foundation Recognition Points (FRPs) to encourage contributions to The Rotary Foundation (TRF) and to help members become Paul Harris Fellows or to obtain multiple Paul Harris levels. See attached documents.
This is the way the program will work:
Members who have FRPs will be asked to donate all or a specified part of their points.
The donated points will establish a pool available for transfer to other members who are contributing to TRF
Members contributing to TRF may choose to use points to help them become a PHF or advance to the next PHF level
The approach essentially functions as a clearinghouse to connect members with points to members who wish to use points in connection with contributions.
