Happy June! This is the "transition month" for the administration of the club and since some of the board members and honorees with our annual awards will be there some of the time but not at every meeting, I'm going to give some earlier than my last meeting on June15. Each meeting will have a presentation. I want to thank my board and award winners before my term as president is over.
Flight Lite is coming along nicely with the committee chairs of Annie, Cass, and Vance really steppin' it up and getting things moving. If they should ask you to help, please do everything that you can since they are in need of participation in many areas. We plan to raise a lot of money this year, as in years past, with this different format. If you would approach them and ask how you can help, that would be even better!!
It was so nice to meet our scholarship recipients and their families at our last meeting. What outstanding young women we are helping! Their career plans sound very interesting and they know what they want to pursue. One wants to go into speech pathology and the other wants to pursue a career in medicine - trauma surgery. Thank you, committee, for conducting such a thorough job in selecting these recipients. Thanks Dan F., Cass D., and the others who helped.
A very warm and appreciative audience gathered for the retirement party of our member, Nick Gledich, as superintendent of School District 11 on May 29, at Coronado High School. Members of our club were in attendance and we showed our support of Nick for his work for the last nine years as superintendent. He was faced with many challenges which he met head-on, including bond issues, the Waldo Canyon Fire, streamlining and downsizing the number of schools, and meeting budget requirements, to name a few. He leaves a legacy of trust, admiration, and a solid foundation on which to build. Congratulations, Nick, we are proud of you and we look forward to many years remaining as an active member of our club!
I managed my last board meeting of my year in May and thanked the board for all they did to make this year successful. They sincerely spent so much time on Rotary, as exceptional volunteers, to keep the club moving, active, and beneficial to our members. Please thank them for their service. They do it for YOU!!
The committee that selects the Rotary Scholars from two District 11 high schools met Tuesday and selected the two lucky and exceptional seniors. Jackie Valenzuela is from Mitchell and Megan Barney is from Palmer. The committee consisted of: Dan Fauth (chairman), Laura Nonte, Bill Rhea, and Cass Daley. Great work team! The two students and their families will be our guests at our May 25 meeting in the Mining Exchange.
Our Club has decided to establish an ongoing program for sharing Foundation Recognition Points (FRPs) to encourage contributions to The Rotary Foundation (TRF) and to help members become Paul Harris Fellows or to obtain multiple Paul Harris levels. See attached documents.
This is the way the program will work:
Members who have FRPs will be asked to donate all or a specified part of their points.
The donated points will establish a pool available for transfer to other members who are contributing to TRF
Members contributing to TRF may choose to use points to help them become a PHF or advance to the next PHF level
The approach essentially functions as a clearinghouse to connect members with points to members who wish to use points in connection with contributions.
