Happy Thursday! There are 224 days left in my presidency and I can't believe how fast it's flying!
We're a little over halfway through Rotary Foundation Month and I'd love for you to take the time and watch the two videos that I have inserted below. Both are under two minutes and I think they are both very well done!
Another Foundation Tip that I just learned is that if you are doing your donations through Rotary Direct, please go in and find out where you've designated for your donations to go. It is the giving to the Annual Fund that brings those donation dollars back to our club in way of grants. Our club is below the usual giving level right at this point of our Rotary year and our Foundation Director, Maile Foster, thinks it might be that we have our Rotary Direct funds going to a different category. So I encourage you to take a look at that at MyRotary.org and find out where your funds are going! She will talk more about this in the meeting tomorrow!
Also, tomorrow is VERY exciting for several reasons! Immediate Past District Governor Chip Ecks and our current Assistant District Governor Bill Savage will be at the meeting to present our club with the Club of the Year banner! This was awarded for Past President Gullatte's administration (2020-2021). We should be very proud that our club was awarded this honor two years in a row, and especially because all but six weeks of his year, we were on Zoom. We can be so grateful that we had a president and a programs chairman with the energy and commitment to well- constructed, and quality content that transferred to the small screen. Just this week I was on a zoom meeting with several other clubs in our district and was told that they don't like zoom at all. They said it was boring and chaotic. I would NEVER use either of those words to describe what we had this past Rotary year.
Another reason to be excited about this week is that The Exodus Road will be presenting our program. They are an organization that does the real-life rescuing of those held in human trafficking. And even better, their Finance Director, Claudine Dickson, will be here as well! For those of you that remember, Claudine was our club's Administrative Director of Everything for five years! It will be so nice to have her visit the club and I know she will enjoy everyone going to Karen Mooty for those things now!
This week's Random Awesome Deed suggestion is to tip a little better than usual. We are into our holiday season and service workers have families and needs and holiday wants. Won't it be nice if your wait staff gets extra tips and sees that they will be able to do all the holiday things for their families this year?!
An extra credit Random Awesome Deed is to give someone a 3-second hug. A quick hug is nice but some of us need a bit more. It is the holidays after all which can be a very hard time for some people and for a plethora of reasons.

Our club will be hosting another Rotary Rally on Tuesday afternoon (Nov 30) at 4:30 PM at Ivywild!
If you are planning to attend, be sure to extend the invitation to anyone you know who wants to meet weekly with other amazing people and do good things for our community! The event is FREE to attend but everyone pays their own tab! Ivywild has amazing appetizers and very creative cocktails! (So fancy!)
And also, attending a Rotary Rally event does count as a club member's makeup for missed meetings!

HO, HO, HO! Santa Day at Queen Palmer is just around the corner (well, next month following the Holiday Party for the club).
We will need 5 or 6 people to help assemble gift bags with goodies for the children at Queen Palmer. This will be done at Carol Bach's house on Wednesday, December 8 beginning at 10 am and usually is finished by 11:30 am.
Santa Day is on Friday, December 17 at Queen Palmer. We need 5 Rotarian Elves to volunteer to hand out the holiday gift bags to the children. We will arrive at 2:20pm and will be finished by 3:15 pm. Masks are required and you will need to fill out a volunteer form for School District 11. Carol will email the form to you and collect them that day.

Friday, November 19 from 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm join the Coronado HS students in the auxiliary gym to sort and build the boxes of food that will be distributed on Saturday.
Saturday, November 20 from 9:30 am - 11:00 am Volunteers are needed to deliver the boxes of food to family cars when they arrive for pick-up.
Members are also encouraged to donate any non-perishable goods if they wish. These donations can be brought to the Friday meeting, dropped off at Coronado High School on Friday during sorting, or coordinated a time for drop-off/pick-up with Sam Chapman.
Wreaths Across America:
Sponsor a Wreath for a Veteran by Tuesday, November 30th. For every two wreaths sponsored, WWA will sponsor a 3rd!
Saturday, December 18th at 10:00 am - Volunteer for the Wreath Laying Ceremony at Evergreen Cemetery or a cemetery of your choice.

“We are looking for 4 to 5 people to be on the Diamond Awards committee. We spend about 10 hours actually working on the committee during the school year. We spend maybe five hours during our own free time reading applications and nominations from students about their favorite teacher from District 11 high schools. Reading the nominations occurs from the end of December through the beginning of February. Then we ask the committee to go with us to the high schools to notify the teachers they have won-which is another two hours of time if their schedule allows it. We then have two presentations at the Rotary Club where we invite the winning teachers and their principals to a rotary luncheon and we honor them by giving them a Diamond chipped Clock from Luisa Graff Jewelers, a longtime Rotarian, and a check from the Community Service Fund that they are able to use for themselves. All told that is another three hours for a total of 10 hours. I mention this because I know people work full-time, or even retired people have plans and things to do.
So all in all it’s 10 hours which stretches from the end of December until the first week in April. We are looking for 4 to 5 interested members who may have fond memories of teachers in their lives and how they may have changed and help them along the way. This committee was started 22 years ago by Jack Kinney- another longtime, beloved Rotary member- and if you are interested in the committee please reach out to Cass Daley, Jody Richie, or Vance Valades.
