Don't forget that the committee to establish the Permanent Endowment Fund as part of the Service Fund will next meet at 10:45 for an hour on April 6th before the regular meeting, at Wells Fargo on the third floor where Ian Glassford, who is chairman, works. Please come and become part of this new facet of our Service Fund that will benefit our club for generation to come. We will need members to be on various committees. Thank you to those who have already volunteered their help!
Thank you to all the volunteers who showed up after the meeting last week for the Gala planning meeting. I counted at least ten of you willing to be a part of Flight Lite this year! It does my heart good to see that so many are doing more than just attending our Friday meetings.
It was also superbly gratifying to have the Palmer High School students and faculty (some past faculty) on the podium last week when a $10,000 check was presented to our club from their Interact Club, as part of our Nicaraguan Water Project. They are amazing young people who are changing the world for the better and giving their time and money to help others. The villagers in Nicaragua won't even know who raised this money for them but in their hearts, they will know that others care about their safety and health, half a world away. Thank you, Carol Bach for spearheading this. Carol also stated that they have raised another $3,000 for another project - they just won't stop being generous to others. Service Above Self is alive and well at Palmer High School.
Our next social - Rotary on the Rocks - will be held at Smiling Toad Brewery - Rotarian Biff Morehead's down-home brewery off of 8th Street, on May 3rd from 4:30 to 6:30. Biff may even come up with a Downtown Rotary Club brewski for us to sample. Be there to enjoy brews, bites, and belches.
Our Club has decided to establish an ongoing program for sharing Foundation Recognition Points (FRPs) to encourage contributions to The Rotary Foundation (TRF) and to help members become Paul Harris Fellows or to obtain multiple Paul Harris levels. See attached documents.
This is the way the program will work:
Members who have FRPs will be asked to donate all or a specified part of their points.
The donated points will establish a pool available for transfer to other members who are contributing to TRF
Members contributing to TRF may choose to use points to help them become a PHF or advance to the next PHF level
The approach essentially functions as a clearinghouse to connect members with points to members who wish to use points in connection with contributions.
