Darren Smith is a new Prime applicant that will be receiving his Red Badge on Friday 5/26. He was kind enough to provide us a short bio:
Thanks to my parents, service and volunteering has been a part of my life from an early age. Between church and boy scouts, I was kept very busy, but also grew to really enjoy doing for others and the sense of community it instilled. Even while we moved around the world for my dad’s different engineering jobs, they still always found some way to get us involved in giving back.
After squeaking my way through high school, I knew I wasn’t yet mature enough to waste my dad’s money going to college, so off to the Army I went. I spent the next five and a half years traveling around the world installing and maintaining the satellite comms, local networks, and power systems for remote tactical units. While it wasn’t all fun and games, I had an absolute blast and it was one of the best decisions I’ve made for both my personal and professional growth.
Through the Army I finally grew up enough to realize that education mattered, and over a ten year period I earned my Bachelors in Business Administration and then my Masters in Information Assurance. During this time after the service I worked my way up through various computer admin and then computer management positions, all the while following my wife Lauren around as she moved for Medical school, residency, an Internal Medicine position, and finally three years ago to Pueblo for a Hospice and Palliative fellowship at Parkview Medical Center and subsequent Medical Director position at Sangre de Cristo Hospice.
Since moving to Pueblo West, I have left the computer world to pursue my passion of real estate. While I’ve been flipping and renting properties since 2003, the last few years have allowed me to make a clean break and dedicate myself full time to real estate investing. Colorado Springs and Pueblo have been very good to Lauren and I, and we look forward to growing our participation in the community through volunteering and just getting out there to have some fun.
