Recent Archaeological Experiences in Sudan

Past-president Dick Harwood, is our speaker this Friday.  Dick is the Associate Director of the University of Arizona Egyptian Expedition and have spent a month or two for the last twenty-plus years doing archaeological work in Egypt. This year they began a new project of surveying and excavation at a royal cemetery in ancient Nubia (modern Sudan) that was used from 664 to about 350 BCE. The site, called Nuri, has 73 pyramids and dozens of tombs of Nubian/Kushite kings, queens and queen mothers.

Dick  will talk very briefly about modern Sudan and then talk about the work they’re doing and what it’s like to be on an archaeological expedition there.
