ROTARYANNS
WELCOME TO THE CLUB
North Colorado Springs Rotary Club celebrates its 30th anniversary this year. Gordon Edwards was the first President of the Club. His wife, Eloise, organized the RotaryAnn Club during the 1954-1955 Rotary year. Four of the Charter Members of the RotaryAnn Club are members during the 1984-85 Rotary Year: Jane Kraus, Lillian Schneebeck, Erma Terry & Lorna Smith. The officers for the 1984-85 Rotary Year are working to continue the good work of years past. We have planned a busy and, we hope, a fun year. We encourage each Rotaryann to join with us in the many activities planned for 1984-85.

CHARLES A. CLOSSON
District Governor 1985 -1986
Charlie was born and reared in
Charlie was a good father, husband and grandfather. He and Evelyn had three sons and one daughter. He entered Rotary in 1947, and served on all club committees and offices before becoming president of the North Club in 1980-1981, and Zone Representative in 1981-1982. His classification was Hotel Management. (Charles A. Closson died
In preparing for his year as District Governor, he put to good use what he had learned in business; you cannot be a success unless you surround your self with capable people who are willing to work. The first thing he did was to appoint Ken Field as District Conference Committee - Ken was the only one on the committee.
KENNETH S. FIELD
CONFERENCE COORDINATOR
Distinguished Fellow of the
Gradwohl Medallion Award Recipient
Then, he chose Lon Dickson as Chairman of the Youth Exchange committee and enlisted the support of all other members of the Club. District Officers were: David Jenkins, Secretary; Frederick D. Mientka, Treasurer; PDG Wilburt J. Irwin, Historian; Governor Nominee, Earl G. Haber and George Fleeson, Newsletter Editor.
Charlie initiated the 5,000 Club in District # 5470. The goal was to have at least 100 members in the 5,000 Club by the time of the District Conference in 1986. The first 100 individuals giving $5,000 and/or making the Rotary Foundation the beneficiary of $5,000 in their will became charter members. (The goal of 100 charter members was not attained by 1986, however,. the number is now approaching 200.)
In preparation for the Zone Institute held in
Charlie's contributions to the North Club, the Zone and Rotary International are many. In recognition of those contributions, he received many honors; including the R. I. Distinguished Service Award.
Rotary For Mexico project initiated in PDG Charlie Closson's year. That was an "all Colorado Rotary project" coordinated by T. Ray Jones of the Lakewood Foothills Rotary Club.

We're Going To Have Fun
Hard Work Is Fun
We must have fun (work hard) if we are going to meet the challenge of the theme of Rotary International: Rotarians -United in Service - Dedicated to Peace.
The goals for District #547 are designed to enhance the work of the clubs within the District and promote the goals of Rotary International. Our goals are:
1. Emphasize programs that contribute to world peace-WCS Projects, Scholarships, GSE, 3H, Youth Exchange, etc.
2. Consolidate, complete and implement existing programs and efforts.
3. Increase membership 3%, with emphasis on internal increase as opposed to external increase.
4. Promote membership development and reduce the 10% membership loss that occurs annually.
5. Raise $500,000 for PolioPlus and maintain the same level of support for Rotary Foundation as in past years.
It will be a great year if each of us does our job on a daily basis. Remember: What one does is not work, unless he would rather be doing something else.

Welcome District Governor Gene McClintock!! We are very pleased that you will be with us today.
Here are some highlights about our Governor Gene McClintock. DG McClintock is a native of Illinois. He had a long and distinguished career as an educator and public administrator in the "
A graduate of Southern Illinois University in 1949, McClintock received his doctorate from the
The word that District Governor McClintock will bring to all 2,250 Rotarians in District 5470 is Rotary's theme for the year: "Rotarians--United in Service--Dedicated to Peace". DG McClintock will expound on his personal theme for the year: "We're Going To Have Fun--Hard Work IS Fun". He feels selling the lofty ideals expressed by Rotary International should be no problem. Selling the work is fun concept, on the other hand, will take some doing. Especially, when he will be trying to influence 2,250 Rotarians to see why this district has to raise $500,000.00 for Rotary's world-wide PolioPlus program.
The $500,000.00 represents a donation of $222.22 for every Rotarian in the district and that is a lot to ask. Especially since none of Rotary's other programs will be dropped or even curtailed.
Rotarians will still be supporting Rotary International, Youth Exchange, Group Study Exchange, and Hope for
We look forward to District 5470 Governor Eugene McClintock for today's program. Welcome again to Paonia.
