Meeting Minutes August 24, 2015

 
The meeting was called to order by President, Jocelyn Fabry.  Prayer was given by Justin Knepper.

  • Phil Becker brought LSSU student and summer intern at the International Bridge, Mike.  Mike also play on the LSSU basketball team
 
Announcements:
  • Next week's meeting will be the shoe box filling work-bee
  • September 29th- Dr. Lori from Auction Kings will be presenting at Crawford Hall at 6 pm
  • Soo Theater event tribute to Judy Garland on Thursday, Sept 3rd
  • Thursday, Sept 3rd - Special Olympics softball at Locey Field.  Volunteers needed at 5:30 pm

Program:
 
Jocelyn presented Jimmy Hobaugh's wife, Virginia, with the 2015-2015 Rotarian of the Year Award for Jimmie Hobaugh.  Jimmied was a long time, valued member of our club.  The board voted to give this award to Jimmie in his year of passing to commemorate his service to our club, his perfect attendance, and over all achievements in and outside of Rotary.
 
Merit Fry with the Mali Rising Foundation presented today on the organization.  The foundation believes that all children in rural Mali should have a good quality Middel School education in walking distance.  They chose Mali, 1 of the 10 poorest countries in the world for these reasons:
1. Stable country
2. With democracy under threat
3. and a long history of education passion
4. with people tha believe in the power of education
 
Thus far, the foundation has been able to build 18 schools, with the 19th under construction, which 11,000 children have gone through.
