We will be welcoming Beatrice "Trixie" Pineda from the Philippines as our new Youth Exchange student in August.  Trixie was born March 2, 1991.  Her parents are George Garcia Pineda and Yvette Angala Pineda.  They live in the city of Davao.  Her father is a senior purchasing manager with Tadeco and her mother is a senior account officer with Philippine Airlines.  She has two siblings, Jessica who is 15 and George who is 9. 

 

Trixie's native language is Filipino but she has studied English for 13 years.  Trixie is currently a fourth year high school students and has nine subjects:  Filipino, Christian Life Education, Physics, Health, Information Technology, Physical Education, Trigonometry, Social Studies, and English.  Her school is about 15-20 minutes from her home.  She wakes up at 5:45 in the morning and leaves the house around 7:00 a.m.  Her classes start at 8:00 am and end at 5:00 pm Monday through Friday.  After school, she walks to her grandparents' house which is a block away to eat and get ready for swim practice. 

 

Trixie belongs to the Coastland Davao Swim Team and trains five times a week for two hours a day from 5-7 pm.  She started swimming when she was in Grade 6.  She is interested in sports, art, and music. 

 

Both of her parents were Rotary Youth Exchange students.  Her mom studied in East Hampton, Connecticut and her dad studied in Ithaca, New York.  She loves to travel and began traveling when she was young.  Her first visit to the United States was when she was 4 years old.  Her latest trip was in April 2007 and has visited L.A., New York, New Jersey, and Las Vegas.  She has also traveled to Hong Kong.
