Beatriz Bordignon Cypriano –Brazil GRSP 2019/2020
As a 21-yeard-old student from Brazil that never lived abroad or went abroad for more than two weeks, I am having the best experience that I could ever have asked for. GRSP opened a new door for my life and it is with my love and appreciation for the program that I am writing this Newsletter. I got here in July 28th of 2019, and at this end of February I am completing 7 months in Georgia. In my first months I remember being amazed with everything, the big cars and lots of lanes in the streets, the big and green neighborhoods with its beautiful houses, the people’s kindness and hospitality. I was understanding how a lot of things and lifestyle were very different from what I was used with, a different culture in other words, which is being awesome to get to know. I have been opening my horizons living this experience, and I am trying my best to learn and enjoy the best that I can.
Through new friendships within the program, in the Rotary, and with the host families (that always treated me so well), besides the college involvement as well as doing different trips to get to know the most that I can of United Stated, I am having the most diverse and great experiences. In the fall semester, I got to become close friend with two GRSP international students at Georgia Gwinnet College with me –Maria and Rakel. Together we are being able to enjoy the “American college lifestyle”, we were able to travel to Washington D.C. and Philadelphia in the New Year, to do some hiking on North Georgia, and to do some other trips. Besides that, it had beenawesome to get a chance to spend some time together outside school, with the other GRSP students and also get to absorb all the history and US’ culture.
Some other opportunities with the program’s weekends were also great to make a better connection with the international students, but even more than that, to get to know different Rotary clubs in Georgia that are involved in the program and that work so hard to make this program happen. The activities scheduled for us arealwaysagood time, and I really appreciated all the host families that I could spend some time with duringthese weekends, besides all mixing of students in the families that wasalways great (this is being a perfect way to get to know everyone better). I am glad about this year and all the outcomes of it. Now it is already end of February and when I look back, I am proud of all the things I have done that were out of my comfort zone, as well as the people that I met and that I will take for life as very good friends and family. Thank you, Rotary and GRSP, for making this a real-life experience and not only a dream! This peace offer that we are bringing as ambassadors is because of you!
