Bill St Clair, PDG and District 6910 Foundation Chair
Bill presented to the club the District Simplified Grant of $2,517 + $200 incentives for increasing club membership by at least 10%. The club with use the grant to support the Foothills prison ministry @ East Jackson School computers for a total gift of over $6,000. These grants require club matching. The District awarded $97,000 to over 50 clubs in the District funded by contributions to the Rotary Foundation three years ago.
Past District Governor and District 6910 Foundation Chairman Bill St. Clair recently presented a check to the Braselton Rotary Club for a District Simplified Grant for $2,517 plus a $200 bonus earned by the club for attaining one of the district goals: increasing club membership by 10 percent or more or increasing Rotary Foundation giving. The presentation was made Sept. 8.
The club is using the grant to support Foothills Education Charter High School, currently housed at East Jackson County High School. With the matching grant money, Braselton Rotarians will be funding more than $6,000 in computers to be used by students working to complete their high school education after having left the regular high school setting for a number of reasons: teen pregnancy; work to provide for family; falling behind or exceeding the pace of the standard high school classroom experience. Foothills Charter High Schools offer a “self-paced, individualized curriculum” in five counties and inside two state prison facilities, Burruss and Lee Arrendale.
The club is seeking additional matching funds from the community and at least one local business will be matching another $3,000.
