Military Goody Boxes

Braselton Rotarian Bill Orr, also mayor of the Town of Braselton, suggested the club consider providing some much-need care packages to some U.S. Army soldiers serving in remote areas of Afghanistan who would appreciate some of the comforts of home which we take for granted everyday -- sunscreen and other care products that offer protection from the sun; toiletries and other care products which aren't readily available in remote areas; fans and batteries; candy and other snack treats; small games, crossword puzzles and other activities to pass the time including small footballs; sports team ballcaps; and other little touches of home.

Rotarian Leigh Carroll and immediate past president, whose son is a member of our armed forces, took the lead on the project and encouraged donations of items as well as monetary donations which were used to buy some of the most requested items on the soldiers' wish list.

The donations were assembled at the club's July 28 meeting and boxed up with Rotarian John Wheeler and his business, Bizzy Bee Exterminators in Braselton, handling the final packing of donations and financing the mailing costs of the overseas-bound boxes.

The Rotary Club of Braselton is proud to support these soldiers and is grateful for their service. In addition, each club member is proud to be an American.
