Once upon a time, there was a January where we had no idea what was ahead of us, and our kids had been sick every second week anyways. Ordinary winter, we thought.

In February, we even wandered to the British York to see the world’s largest Viking Festival and to celebrate Tomi’s one-year-long beard. That was a family vacation of a lifetime with superb memories to remember. Then we bid farewell to The Beard.

We managed to escape home before lockdowns but Elza still had to have a bronchoscopy due to a 5 month long (seemingly endless) cough. She took the hospital stay better than Wonder Woman and managed to come home before everything shut down.

In March kindergarten closed, home office began and we were jammed in our 570 square feet home in the middle of the city. We rerouted. Again and again. And reevaluated everything.

In April we very much appreciated our worn down yard around our block of flats with little grass, and planted flowers with the kids, crafted a little diy playground. We hiked a lot. Elza learnt to ride her bike.

By May we already had a routine of kid friendly hikes in the forests of our vicinity and also found joy in caring for my late grandparents’ house and garden an hour away from the city. We celebrated Dusán’s first birthday on our favourite picninc field with cose family.

As borders opened we hopped over to Austria to visit cousins in the mountains which meant the world to everybody. We climbed mountains, had trout, hiked around a mountain lake, saw snow in the summer and even visited Minimundus in Klagenfurt.

In July kids attended two weeks of kindergarden and we visited many friends with weekend houses in the country.

Álmos and Elza attended their first swimming camp together in August and we had a huge viking birthday party for Álmos at the end of the month.

September brought the beginning of kindergarden with new rules but we adjusted fast. We also started looking around schools for Álmos for next year.

In October our block of flats had a heating system failure so we had no gas for five weeks and managed to learn new surviving skills.

In November we had a nonCovid related family lockdown because the two elder kids had the stomach flu for three weeks.

December brought some onlinve events to manage for Tomi which was a nice relief in the work field and in the meantime we had a very nice and cozy Advent and a beautiful Christmas.
