LOU is a small organization with a big heart, dedicated helping set children free from poverty.  They believe that by partnering communities in America with communities internationally, they can impact children living in poverty from the inside out.  When a LUO paertnership is formed, they work with community members and church leaders to initiate community involvement.  Through cooking meals, offering medical help, teaching Biblical curriculum and volunteering time, they believe that both the children and the community will be transformed.

LOU operates Ithemba, a day center for orphans in Jeffrey's Bay, South Africa and Casa Havilah and Casa Robles, rescue centers for abused children in Managua, Nicaragua.  These programs are led by Gavin and Lindsay Tarquinio.

LUO featured on CNN


 

Last month, we got a very phone call from a producer at CNN...she wanted to do a story on LUO...the word "excited" doesn't even begin to describe how we felt!  A few weeks later, we were interviewed and recorded, then we heard the news that the story was not only going to air in they US, but also on CNN international!  We are so excited that our story has gotten shared with people all around the world, but we wanted to share it with you so that you can pass it along to your friends and tell them all about the wonderful children in South Africa and Nicaragua.

     Hand Painted, With Love     
    
  One of our favorite parts of every year is getting to paint canvases with the children at Ithemba.  Usually, we design one canvas, using cups, or blocks, or squirt bottles...something easily replicated...then we let the kids go to town.  With this method, all of the canvases look roughly the same.

 

But this past summer, we decided to take a risk and give the kids the freedom to use whatever colors they want to and add whatever "finishing touches" that their creative little hearts desire!  Our only request was that they paint only vertical strokes.  So, this year, we are SO excited to offer our first line of individually personalized, hand painted canvases.  The kids did an amazing job...their creativity was able to shine, and they had a blast doing it.  

 

Now, when you purchase a canvas, you get a little glimpse into the personalities of each child, and like always, it is signed with a hand print or foot print and sent with a picture of the little one that created it.  

 

This is an example of one of the beautiful canvases!

 

 

Each canvas costs $250 and supports a child at Ithemba for one year.  It provides nutrition, medical care, academic education and a Biblical curriculum (provided by ReThin k ) If you are interested in purchasing a canvas, or just want a little more information, please check out our website .
