The Dallas Brass & Harmony Bridge

Please join us for the Rotary After Dark meeting on Tuesday, May 8.  We will be having a presentation that night from Michael Levine, the founder and trombonist for The Dallas Brass, an internationally known brass ensemble. The Dallas Brass has performed for two U.S. Presidents, has made appearances with Cincinnati Pops, New York Pops, at Carnegie Hall, and around Europe in addition to the U.S. Perhaps most famously, The Dallas Brass frequently travels to public schools to present clinics to students as well as work with them on a selection of music. It is in this connection with founder and director Michael Levine hit upon an idea which aligns with Rotary values, and especially the Rooters' current focus on singing to seniors.

Michael has founded Harmony Bridge, https://www.harmonybridge.net.  The idea behind Harmony Bridge is a simple one -- school band members learn to play familiar tunes in small ensembles, and take what they have learned to nursing homes and other senior residences and put on a show for the residents. Jim Nelson has been to some of these shows locally (featuring Edina school musicians) and he can attest:  the seniors love it! It doesn't stop with the music, either. The kids learn about community service and enjoy the interaction with the seniors.

Our club has developed some relationships with Edison High School through the efforts of Doug Schmitt and John Vandermyde. Joining us with Michael at RAD will be Lesley Earles, music instructor at Edison.
