The Mysteries of the Museum

The second Rotary After Dark of May will not be held on Tuesday, May 22.  Rather, it will be held on Thursday, May 24th at 5:15 pm at the Minneapolis Institute if Art.  Host Gary Mosiman has enlisted his college roommate and docent at MIA, Dick Ploetz, to lead us in a 45 minute tour highlighting “The Mysteries of the Museum.”  You’ll learn:

1. What painting caused a scandal at the 1799 Academy and resulted in crowds of snickering viewers?

2. What art discovery made a German archeologist think he had discovered the lost city of Atlantis?

3. When and how Porsche stole the idea for the Volkswagen from a Czech artist?

4. What art object was determined to be “too perfect” and changed the course of the career of its creator?

5. Who Rembrandt really painted in one of his last and greatest paintings?

The tour will be followed by a happy hour either in the Institute’s first floor coffee shop and cafe or at a nearby restaurant/bar.  Because MIA limits the size of tour groups, we ask you to please register for this event.  Those who register by the May 21 deadline will receive further details about the tour via email.
