December 9th visit to Matamoros
On the road again, its 4:00  am on Saturday morning  and our DGN Tom Kelcher is already at our front door,  and some of us are on the way to Buc-ee's  in Wharton to meet up with the rest of our group for our trip to Matamoros Mexico, Dick Stabell is  driving his new truck and pulling our club trailer full of school uniforms, chairs, computers, some equipment for the red cross, his co pilot and navigator is our newest member Barbra Martinez. Our presidente Jim Moers is also driving and he is loaded with  hoses for the Matamoros fire deparment, and he is also loaded with passengers, Ciro Jimenez, Larry Blair and Mitchell Lou. We pick up our PDG Mindi Snyder in el campo and we are on our way .
After unloading and checking in at the hotel, the ladies divide us in groups and take us across the border for lunch, it was DGN Tom's birthday a couple of days ago so we had a birthday cake for him and sung him happy birthday and our rotary song, he was touched and very grateful. We visited Pan de Vida an elderly peoples home and we delivered a power scooter that cost about $5000.00 dollars and it was donated to us from a rotarian in our district. Our next stop was the red cross where we where show the poor  state of the building which had been shut down during covid and it had been vandalized badly and even the electrical wires had been pulled out, the roof had many  leaks and they are hoping that we will help them with the needed repairs so that they can get back to serving the people in need. Our next stop was the dedication of the 2 water projects carried out with global grants. One of the residents spoke to us and told us how before he would open his tap and he would not get any water at all, this 2 grants were used to replace very old metal pipes that had leaks and for the most part were full of dirt. I brought back a section for shoew and tell that is completely clogged up with dirt and has many cracks. many wa
