Dr. Maggie Abbot, Director of Outreach, Houston Area Parkinsons Society
Bio: Dr. Maggie Abbott, PT, DPT, is a physical therapist and serves on the staff of the local non-profit Houston Area Parkinson Society (HAPS) as Director of Outreach. She graduated with her bachelor's in science from the University of Texas at Austin in 2007 and her doctorate in physical therapy from Texas Woman’s University in Dallas in 2010. Maggie has worked as a physical therapist in various settings, including hospitals, outpatient clinics, and home health, with a focus on working with older adults. For the last 10 years, she has specialized in working with people with Parkinson’s in the Greater Houston Area. In her role at HAPS, she teaches exercise classes, conducts one-on-one consultations with people with Parkinson’s, collaborates with universities and health professionals, attends health fairs, and more! Maggie has spoken locally and nationally on Parkinson’s-related topics at events hosted by groups like the Parkinson Foundation, Michael J. Fox Foundation, and the American Physical Therapy Association’s Geriatric and Neurologic Sections. Her most recent speaking engagement at a Rotary club was in Galveston earlier this year, which made the local paper! Maggie has lived in Galveston with her family for the last five years, and she has been taking up birding as a new hobby.
