The  2 fire trucks for Altamira in Tampico, Mexico were delivered to Pharr Texas on 6-23-12 it was a very interesting trip most of us drivers had to get up around 3:30 AM to try to beat the heat as these fire trucks did not have a/c and the temperature was expected to be 97 degrees, after a few hours it felt like it was more like 120 degrees, the posse of drivers consisted of seasoned fire truck drivers and our soon to be new club member Jim Craig, we made it to Pharr in good time with no break downs and our round trip took 17 hours, I bet none of the drivers had a hard time to fall asleep that night! A big heart felt THANK YOU to all the drivers. I am sure that these fire trucks will be put to good use since the city of Altamira does not have any fire trucks and up until now they had to rely on help from the Tampico fire department. The funds for the purchase of these fire trucks was made possible by a Rotary Grant  and I was able to get them 2 fire trucks instead of one for the same amount of money, one truck came from Milan Michigan and the other from Talladega, the Michigan truck was brought by transport and I had to build ramps in the street in front of my house to unload it because it was so long that the ramps in the transport truck were too short, the other one from Talladega, my friend Robert Hannasch went to pick up and drove it to Houston for us. He almost made it to my home when the alternator went out on him and the truck turned off about 1 mile from my house. I pulled it home with my FORD pick up. I would like to point out that due to Dick's seniority we did give him the fire truck that had the closest thing to air conditioning, it had vent windows that opened!! which he taped to keep open.
