Following are projects supported by the Chanhassen Rotary Club during the last 12 months:

Scholarships for deserving students with needs for financial assistance

Each year the Chanhassen Rotary awards $10,000 in scholarships to seniors from both Chaska and Minnetonka school districts.  Selection is based on scholastic and community service achievement.

STRIVE Program

One strong predictor of educational success is a positive relationship between students and non-parental adults.  The Chanhassen Rotary and Chaska Rotary Club team up to assist struggling ChaskaHigh School students to improve their GPA's.  Students that maintain or raise their grades and attend STRIVE meetings are eligible for scholarships.  Some students attribute receiving their diplomas as a direct result of their participation in this powerful program, which focuses on personal responsibility, time management and planning for the future.

ShelterBox CampOut

Chanhassen Rotary organized a CampOut in early December, 2005 to raise money to fund ShelterBoxes and to support the CAP Agency Energy Assistance program.  The second annual ShelterBox Camp Out was held in December of 2006

ShelterBoxes are designed to provide a source of shelter, warmth, safe drinking water, a way to cook hot food and other essentials in the immediate aftermath of natural disaster.  Each container includes a tent, sleeping bags, cooking stove, utensils, tools and water purification to sustain 10 people for over three months or more.

Funds raised in the 2005 Camp Out were directed by ShelterBox USA to the Sudan, an area where millions of women and children are homeless in the wake of civil war and unrest in that region.  Shelterboxes have also been sent to Pakistan (2005 earthquake), Louisiana (Hurricane Katrina), as well as a number of countries affected by the tsunami that devastated Sri Lanka and neighboring countries.

CAP Agency

Chanhassen Rotary Club supports the CAP Agency with annual financial support for their programs serving 25,000 children, families and senior citizens in Carver, Scott and Dakota counties.

Chimbote , Peru

The barrio of Chimbote, Peru suffers from few jobs, high crime rates an indescribable poverty.  The Chanhassen Rotary Club and local churches support scholarships, a microlending program, infrastructure projects and health programs.  Each year, we ship 2 - 3 cargo containers of donated items to this impoverished community.  Local Rotarians and church volunteers travel to Chimbote each year assisting with these efforts.  In addition, Chan Rotary members serve as board members for various programs.

Santa Cruz , Honduras

Lack of fresh water in Honduras means that the child mortaility rate in Honduras is over 100 times that of the US.   Chanhassen Rotary helped bring fresh water to Santa Cruz, Honduras, where over nine miles of PVC pipe, wheelbarrows, picks, and shovels were donated or purchased and shipped to this remote village.  The town's people are currently in the process of hand trenching and installing this material. When complete, this project will bring fresh water to this community from a mountain spring 8.5 miles away.  For the first time, residents will enjoy a dependable supply of safe drinking water - and make sure the children stop dying.

  Rotary Youth Exchange

This program promotes international understanding and peace by exposing high school students from around the globe to different cultures than their own.  Each year, the club sponsors a student from outside North America who learns about American life in the Chanhassen area with the generous support of three local host families.
