With 40 years in the Canadian Armed Forces with two deployments to Afghanistan,  As a member of the International Security Assistance Force he acted as a mentor to senior Afghan Army officers at the Afghan Army Staff College in Kabul. As a member of the International Security Assistance Force, Combined Training Advisory Group – Police, he assisted in the training, coaching, and mentoring of senior Afghan National Police officers in order to create a training system capable of supporting the development and sustainment of a professional Afghan National Police Force. His role included acting as the Advisor to the Deputy Commander of the Afghan National Police Training General Command and as the Chief of Plans and Policy section of the Advisor Branch with the Combined Training Advisory Group – Police.

Prior to his military career, he served as a deputy judge of the Hamilton Small Claims Cour, and the Ontario Superior Court of Justice.

He is a lawyer practicing corporate and commercial law, franchise law, wills and estate law, real estate law, and condominium law and has given countless hours of pro-bono work for numerous charities including: City Kidz, St.John's Ambulance, Proaction Cops and Kids, Rotary Club of Hamilton Stoney Creek.

He is a member of the Rotary Club of Hamilton Stoney Creek, the Royal Hamilton Light Infantry Senate, and a Director of the Friends of H.M.C.S Haida.
