All about William Jessup University

ImageDr. John Jackson was our speaker, talking about the history, culture and future of William Jessup University. The university has experienced rapid growth since moving into their current facilities in 2004, starting with about 400 students and projected to be over 1000 this Fall.  New programs being put into place include math, science and and creative arts.   Dr. Jackson stated that higher education is in a crisis related to cost, student debt, graduation rate, employment skills mismatch and overall fiscal health.  William Jessup U. is taking action steps to address this crisis by setting stronger learning goals for their students to make them exceptionally employable.  More than 90% of their graduates either have jobs at graduation or are headed for graduate school.

We were pleased to have Gene Arreguy, a member in the Rocklin/Loomis Club, as our guest who had tickets to their club's stocked wine fridge auction.  Also, Linda Bello-Ruiz, from a Rotary club in Mexico and part-time Lincoln resident, attended, describing her new book (signing at SCLH Kilaga Springs Sept 14th at 1pm).  Art introduced Aubrey Currington, a financial planner with Merriil Lynch/Bank of America, who might be interested in joining the club.

ImageDoug Brown from the Lincoln Recreation Dept was on hand to accept a check for $500 that will be used to fund their youth activities, e.g., helping families in need so that kids can participate.  This is associated with our beverage cart sponsorship at the 9/16 Mayor's Cup golf tournament Golf Tourament Flyer.  Jerry paid a fine for his mis-spelling on the award check!

Dan Johnson presents an IGNITE pin to Reggie (Bear) Bronner for sponsoring a new member. Kris reported that there was a huge turnout at the first Interact/Key club meeting at LHS (check with school for exact meeting time if you want to attend).

Ken George won the drawing (+ bottle of olive oil) but could not retrieve the Ace of Spades - Next week it's a $580 pot with 3 cards left. Also, remember to sell those Cow Chip Bingo Tickets; contact Clark if you need more.

Two events noted:  1) Sept 7 7pm Salt Mine roof fund raiser with local group TNT "On the Spot" Improv Team - $7 at the door, and 2) Zebra Classic Golf Tournament Oct. 4 sponsored by LHS Booster Club - contact Kris.
